For the people interested in the upcoming HBO Pilot (and hopefully a serie as well) about George RR Martins A song of ice and fire. This is the confirmed cast so far (Guilty in copying from wikipedia but the list is reliable):

As you can see there are some pretty big names confirmed so far so it seems impossible that we will not get at least one full season out of it unless the pilot turns out to be absolute rubbish. A lot of the actors also seem to be able to drag a pretty big fanbase along with them, I'm pretty sure the average Sean Bean / Sharp / Boromir fan could be really enjoying a game of thrones and links with the tudors (tamzim merchant) and terminator: the sarah connor chronicles (lena headey) could be a major crowd pullers for this project.

I'm still not to sure about David Bennioff and Dan Weiss as main producers (troy and wolverine aren't exactly high on my best movies ever list) but the list of actors is really getting my hopes up for this to become a great serie.

Hehe, so true. You should try Steven Eriksons malazan books of the fallen if you can't stand waiting anymore, the first book can be a though nut to crack but after that you'll be blown away. Since GRRM can't finish a book Erikson has becom my new number one fantasy writer.

But that still doesn't change the facts that this HBO series is by far at the top of my television anticipation list

Well if my two cents are worth something, I'd give Prince of Nothing a 7/10 and Malazan a 10/10. With as an added advantage of Malazan that Steven Erikson has no equel in putting out sheer amounts of text (since 1999 9 books as fat as they can get) what really was delight after the GRRM frustration of 5 years a book

    Agree with this completely.

    Go with the Malazan books.

The Malazan series puts ASOIF to shame in terms of epic scope, feuds millenia old between charcters still around to hold the grudge, normal people standing up to gods (and winning, but the guy who manages that stretchs normal to breaking point) a war 300,000 years old and the original armies still fighting it, the politics of an empire falling apart around the empress' ears, it's brilliant (Gardens of the Moon however, the first in series is a touch weak compared to what comes after)

Wow somebody quotes me a year and two months after my post.... I feel very important right now.

Sorry mate, but I already read Prince of Nothing since then and though I wasn't impressed I won't start Malazan....this supposed epic scope sounds silly to me.

What drew me to ASOIAF is how realistic it is....sure seasons last for years and there is a great wall of ice and creatures that want to plunge the world in never-ending winter.....but the moments when I said "This is silly" were very very few

I might give it a try.

Anyway I really hope the series is a success, I would hate a cancellation like Rome.

I'm glad a guy like Dinklage, who can actually act and not just be a curiosity, gets a chance for a major leading role.
Some day I'll actually write all the reviews I keep promising...

I keep hearing good stuff about these books (not a big fantasy book reader type), but I looked into it and it sounds like an interesting plot. Still don't think I'll read the books, but I'll probably watch the show if HBO starts a series, I like Sean Bean and Lena Headey and HBO never disappoints, somehow.

You should read the books, it's worth it. Only danger is to go mad while waiting for MArtin to write the rest.

Malazan are great books. They are really dense and Erickson does nothing to help explain the thousands and thousands of years of history he has woven into the books, so just read, enjoy what you can as you read, because as each book comes to a "close" all those loose threads start to make sense and you get to truly enjoy how clever he is as a writer. Excellent epic fantasy.
