    well the title is self explanatory

    what is a model? what is it for? what are some formats?

    what is skin? what is skinning?

    how are models and skins related?

    The model is the geometry that makes up the character or object which consists of vertices and polygons. Skinning is texturing the 3D mesh on a 2D plane but others might just call it texturing. Both are related because it takes both to get the character or object to look the way it looks after it’s rendered in game or in a 3D program.
