    Default The Mighty Danes!

Playing as the Danes on VH/VH with RR/RC compilation and BGRIV. I must say that this campaign has proven very challenging, finding it very hard to finance just one army for my conquest of Scandinavia. To make it more complicated, Norway has gone on the offensive against me, allying with the Holy Roman Empire. Grimly enough, the HRE have made a few incursions at Arhus, but now they look poised to fully invade with a full stack army along the border.

I am aware that RR/RC with BGRIV makes the game very difficult, but I just absolutely love how challenging this game is with these modifications; I can't play this game without RR/RC and BGRIV.

Anyway, does anyone have in suggestions with how I should play as the Danes? When I started the campaign, I held off my invasion of Norway because I wanted to secure the rebel settlements in Scandinavia fist. I am regretting that now, seeing how Norway is on the offensive and the HRE getting ready wipe my kingdom from the face of Scandinavia. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

    Thanks!

Well, you should strike fast at Norway, and as hard as you possibly can, however, attacking Oslo (Assuming they do have Oslo) would be far too hard, you should go around back and attack the two settlements in modern days' Norway, Bergen and that other settlement which starts with an E.
Taking over these two will be far easier and will hit the Norwegians very hard as you will destroy their trade route to Britain, their escape route out of Scandinavia and one of their biggest economical outpost (If not the biggest).

    Good luck mate.

Try taking Visby as this can bring in a lot of income, but not without risk

I have all of Scandinavia in the bag, and am currently besieging Visby.

See if you can grab either Finland, Estonia or Ireland - most factions don't go for them in the short term...

The one thing I hate about Denmark is Toke the merchant... he always buys out my merchants if I'm someone else and when I'm Denmark he ends up with bad traits for trading glass too long

Never had a problem with Toke, but I constantly have a problem with Bjorn. Sneaky little diplomat that keeps forging alliances with other factions, and once the alliance is sealed, that faction joins the war on Norway's side. My reputation isn't bad at all, so I haven't a clue what is going on with that.

I actually have the same problem with Toke the merchant. LOL. I too play the same submods as you. You can defend against HRE, easily enough. I did what Nazgul Killer suggested. Obviously, I had to take a hit from the Pope, but it was worth it since it significantly weaken Norway. From there defend against Norway (since their provinces will share boundaries with you) and slowly conquer the rest of Scandinavia. Once that's done, Norway will go down easily enough. From there, you can either teach those Germans a lesson for attacking you, or you can go all viking on the British Isle.

I've found that a waiting game often pays off very well with the Danes. After securing Scandinavia, I usually wait for Poland / HRE / Scotland / Novgorod to get involved in wars with their respective neighbours. It's always surprising how fast a single stack can take 3-4 cities when hostile troops are occupied elsewhere.

The blow is sometimes so heavy that you can pull off a peace treaty in exchange for yet another hostile city.
