Icon5 List of most powerfull factions of the time

Im not sure what year the game starts, but i suppose its the same as vanilla?

Anyway, in the late 11th century(1000s), what would the list look like from 1-10 in most powerfull?

    1.Seljuks?
    2.Bysantin Empire?
    3.Moors?
    4.Holy Roman Empire?
    5.France?
    6.Egypt?
    7.Hungary?
    8.Poland?
    9.Denmark?
    10.Lithuania?

    Late medieval times(late 15th century)

    1.France?
    2.Holy Roman Empire?
    3.Kalmar Union?
    4.Poland?
    5.England?
    6?
    7?
    8?
    9?
    10?

The lists here is only my guesses. What do you think about this?

It's really very hard to judge, especially in medieval conditions where the power of faction could rise as quickly as it could fall. It was often tied to the man in charge (ruler)... But about your list (my personal comments):

    1. Never heard of, isn't it a typo and you meant Seljuks?
    2. Byzzies suffered terribly around our start fate (1080) and first crusade was organized much for their request. How desperate they had to be... certainly hardly considered a very powerful faction.
    3. This might be true if there was Moors faction :-) Actually differences between each caliphates just in Iberia were so big that they are not even under the control of Moors in DotS. Not to mention the recent coup d'etat by Almoravids in Northern Africa... But certainly we could consider them fairly powerful or at least on the rise.
    4. Not a state really. And if you meant Emperor, then he was in civil war with the counter king with uncertain outcome yet in 1080...
    5. Common misconception. France was far from being the powerful state. It had all the time huge potential, but it was truly used only long after our timeframe... In 1080 the King of France was too afraid to even leave Paris not to mention being major power in the world.
    6. Another rather good choice. Despite some upcoming coups :-)
    7. Hungary really was powerful at this time, altough one could wonder wheter it was not for the weakness of its neighbours :-) But sure, they could make the list.
    8. Poland was really in similar position to France. Civil war, coups, inconsistency and foreign raids to its territory. Not that uncommon in medieval world, but you just can't consider that a "power".
    9. Denmark I am uncertain about that, but they had some nice grasps here and there in Northern Europe and they could certainly be accounted for as a major power then.
    10. Hardly. No real impact beyond their border... but later yes, they resisted the Order for quiet some time!

I think the mightiest empire at the beginning of the game would be the Seljuqs. Not for a long time though, and the Fatimid Dynasty in Egypt was also on the rise. Yusuf ibn Taisaff had also managed to take hold of quite some land by 1100, so it's really hard to say. I'm inclined to say an Islamic faction, though.

Same thing . The Seljuks, or Seljukids, comes from the word 'Seljucid' or 'seleucid', obviously the J is pronounced English Y so as you can see it is the same word, just different spelling.
A new mobile phone tower went up in a town in the USA, and the local newspaper asked a number of people what they thought of it. Some said they noticed their cellphone reception was better. Some said they noticed the tower was affecting their health.

A local administrator was asked to comment. He nodded sagely, and said simply: "Wow. And think about how much more pronounced these effects will be once the tower is actually operational."

It is hard to say. The Seljuks would have been much more powerful if they weren't caught up in internal rivalries, but they weren't united enough to stop the first crusade.

No one stopped the first crusade because they had no idea that it was a crusade. They thought it was just another mob of raiders out for cheap pleasure. It wasnt until the massacre in Jeruslamen they understood what it was about.

Yeah, that's a good point. They really had no precedent to go on. It must have seemed odd to them that there was such a large group of armed pilgrims.

I've also read that there is evidence that the Byzantines had kept the Fatimid Vizier al-Afdal updated on the crusaders progress which gave him the impression that the crusaders were, at least in some sense, an extension of Byzantine power. The Fatimids were on good terms with the Byzantines, but saw the Seljuks as the real threat to their power. This lead al-Afdal to attempt, on several occasions, to try to form an alliance with the crusaders against the Seljuks. In any case, it seems that (as you said) the crusaders' mission did not become clear to him until after the sack of Jerusalem.

at the start, definately the eastern states. Although Byzantines were in problems i would consider them second behind the Seljuk Turks.
At the end, mongols, ottomans, mamluks, france and spain?

If anyone wonders, Seleucids were Alexander's Empire heirs. They pretty much ruled same amount of land like Seljuks on their peak, but no Sogdiana, Egypt and Asia Minor.

I think everybody knows who they were. He just misspelled Seljuks because Seleucids were around in 200BC not 1080AD.

The papal states are the most powerful, example: excommunication of kings, the crusades, more money than all the others put together( the church funds, lands, treasures, relics), fanatiscism, agents in every country(thousands of them, the priests),all the aquired knowledge of the ages tucked up in their monasteries, militarily almost no power whatsoever but politically more than all the others
