    Default Real start of ww2

Today was the start of the battle of westerplatte, and the declaration of war given by Britain. This is the true start of the great war. May all soldiers, and civilians alike rest in peace...

Every country has its own definition on when the war truly started. To the Entente powers and Germany it began in 1939, to the Russians and Americans it started in 1941 whilst the Chinese go as far back as 1937. Indeed some would even claim that the SCW could be described as an actual prologue to WW2.

Others would see World War 2 as the climax of 5 centuries of unbridled European expansionism, arrogance and internal conflict

And others would see it as a result of the poor German kitchen making the Germans grumpy to the point of utter insanity.

Point is, "others" are often wrong...

Some reckon it goes back as far as the 1933 invasion of Manchuria.

Anyways. RIP all those who fell in this war. It was truly horrendous and lets hope we don't ever get a repeat.

I was watching a programme with interviews of civlians from all sides, those who survived the German invasion of Russia (And the Russian invasion of Germany), those who survived the Blitz here in Britain and the bombing campaign here in Germany, those who simply heard about the war on the news over in America and some of the more far away commonwealth countries. It really sank in how much it chaged peoples lives.

I also thought it was interesting for the child evacuees who had lived abroad or in the countryside for 5-6 years (often the majority of their lives) and not really being aware of the war, then coming back to families they didn't recognize and war torn streets full of blown out houses, rubble, bomb craters and people who were just weary of life in general.
