Default If there were no death and birth in this world what would think would happen?

What if we mankind never to die and could retain our youth forever. This is not a what if question on overpopulation so we have to assume there was no more birth too. All people retained their youth forever and could never die and there was no addition to the population.

What do you think would happen to the people character's and society in general?

For me it would spell chaos to society, persecution, riots and tyranny would flourish and dominate. And war would escalate and be everywhere as one tyrant going to war against the other.

The reason for me saying this is that I realize mankind are driven by the need to get hold of power and maintain his position of power for as long as he could. Power corrupts and most people are changed after they've tasted power such that they would not want to let go. People plot, cheat, lie and kill for power even when the person they go against are their own family. People are such power driven. Each person wanting to dominate the other people whether in economic or militarily or both. The world revolves around this effort to dominate the other. Economy and military are the two things that make the world to be as it is now. People want to be powerful they want to be rich so that they would dominate other people or in simple terms so that they could get what they want.

The world would descend to chaos had there not been death.

The world and societies and civilizations and order owe death for its survival.

Long live death! Whoever created death must be brilliant!

Hmm, can the people die of physical harm? Because if they can, then the worlds going to become very empty, very quickly you pessimist

No people are assumed to never die for any reason.
I'm no pessimist I'm a realist when looking at the world. But I'm an idealist when deciding and taking my own action.

How do you go to war when no one can die? Also, why do you believe this "mankind are driven by the need to get hold of power and maintain his position of power for as long as he could" ?

I have the same views and my philosophy teacher called me a pessimist, so you are too.

    My views:

There can be two people placed on a tiny island, and one will assert their power over the other and demand more for their efforts

Everyone in the world could be the same creed, colour, religion and hold the same social beliefs, but give us five minutes and we could still segregate eac other.

In the case of your OP, if no-one could die then i think people wouldnt see a point to living. For, what is the beginning of a play if not a step to finding out the end?

I doubt there would be chaos as you say. Because beign inmortal we'll eventually get tired of chaos and adopt a working system.

yes but what kind of working system would that be. As people try to dominate others it could end up with a global dictatorship.

But it could end up with an utopian society as well I admit. Once the people see what evil is and became a victim of it they will fight against it.

Tyranny can live without the support of its people as long as it's successful to create and maintain an atmosphere of fear in its population. Tyranny can only use coercion to a small percentage of its population hoping it would not trigger a response(social unrest) from most of the population but no tyranny could survive the might of its general population.

Yes but some people would still try to exert power in the name of order where in fact they just want to dominate other and for people to call them Lord over them.

Remember that if we were all immortal doesn't mean that we were all equal in skills and capabilities and ambition.

Because the men hearts are still the SAME.

People don't change their behavior unless they have a change of heart.

It is the heart which is the source of all desires and hence of all our actions and inactions.

When you turned off your tv tonight know it that it is your heart that desire your action not the thoughts that came after the desire. Everything that men do come from their heart. Everything.

Death is the end of life
but no man under no pain wants to die now if he had the ability to choose so.

Yes that was what I had in mind when creating the what if.

I think people would chill out a lot, all be allocated a space of land to grow their own vegies etc (would you need to eat if you can't die?). Each man would become a nation or state unto himself, and just visit others occasionally.

I wonder how many years it would take to get sick of living? I'd hope there would be some method of suicide, otherwise everyone would eventually go stark raving bonkers and end up wearing body paint made of their own feces.

Question is if you get buried under an avalanche or rockslide and no body knows, what the hell are you going to do then?

Starve to death for eternity while being in immense pain from being crushed... Essentially: Hell.

For the first 200-300 years I think that things would go a little crazy but law and order would eventually be restored. People want THINGS, and peace and stability brings more things to people. Also, while power would corrupt - I think democracy would take a firmer hold in the nations that have a taste for it. A static population of ever-increasingly learned people would allow for realistic pure democracy.

Also, pain would replace death in war and punishments. The ray-guns that make you feel like you are on fire would quickly replace firearms, and crime would swap over to being tortured for decades instead of being executed.

No birth, too? Then we would not become overpopulated. Those we like and love we will never lose. As suggested above, we would get bored of chaos, inevitably.

A world without birth or death would be fantastic in my opinion. If birth is included, then, no.

It would get rather stale and boring.

Not to mention I am only truely fond of my wife and children, without the children I would be stuck alone with my wife for eternity...oh the nagging I would have to put up with.

There would be no reason to want more power, but to get better living conditions and so, we wouldn't have such thing as violence after a while. The main instrument of a man in charge, is fear. What does an immortal being have to fear?

If people would suddenly become immortal, it would cause chaos, but only for a short period of time. After a while, people will want order.

The more I think about it the more I would really love a world like this.
