Default The Solution for Mods with Kingdoms @ Steam (WinXP/Vista/7)

    Hey folks

after i crawled many hours through this forum i found a solution, but its quite hidden , so i decided to start a seperate thread for it and therefore i will just repeat the work others have done before

The problem for people playing M2TW Kingdoms in the Steam-Version is, that external .cfg-files are not processed by the M2TW Launcher using the kingdoms.exe, but only the medieval2.exe.
That brings then the "unspecified error" message.

The solution is, to make the Launcher using the kingdoms.exe, like it does with the 4 vanilla kingdoms-campaigns. So we need to bring our mods also in the drop down menu of the lauchner.

This is to be done with some entries in the registry of windows. ATTENTION, use at your own risk.

Solution for Windows 7 (i think its the same for Vista)

    A. Install your wanted mod according to install orders of the mod.

write down (or remember) the path-name of the mod
write down (or remember) the name of the modsī .cfg file (hint: many mods using a .bat-file linked behind the mod-icon on your desktop...in that .bat-file you may find the proper info.)

    B. start the registry editor, for example with typing in "regedit" under the run option (?), down in the start menu.

You need to look for the proper key, which is not the same as for WinXP.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\Mods\

please look at the attached screenies!!!! numbers corresponding!

    1. add a new key called "unofficial" under the existing "mod" key (i think you can alternatively put a new key 0004xxxx under "official" key)

    2. make a new key "0000xxxxxxx" under the "unofficial" key (if you want to add more mods, you need to go on with 0001xxxx, 0002xxxx etc.)

    3. make all the new entries like in the screenie. its a mere copy of the entries from the official mod keys and strings.

I made red circles around the most important binaries/strings, which is:
The ConfigFile - here you need to add the corresponding .cfg from your preferred mod. (e.g DLV_ext.cfg for DeusLoVult)
The GameExe - here you need to add kingdoms.exe, because thats our ultimate goal
The Path - here you need to add the complete path for the mod, including the "mods/xxxx", where xxxx is the path-name of your mod, (e.g. mods/DLV_ext for DeusLoVult)

the other strings should be filled correct, but are more or less fluff.

    then close the registry editor.

    C. start the m2tw launcher und choose your new added mod

    Solution for WinXP

it the same, but the registry key is slightly different
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\Mods\

I hope this thread helps some people to find the necessary info earlier than i did.

yes absolutely, but the title of your thread doesnt say what it is about really....when you dont know what the problem is
but its true, your solution brought me to the idea to make a new thread.
because not even i was able to refind your thread after i closed the browser.
overall good job gigantus in providing the basic solution

    Hi mates,

First of all, I really LOVE DLV, playing it since the very earliest editions! Congrats to this unbelievable mod.

    But:

Since I bought my new monster of a computer: Windows 7, i7 processor, loads of RAM -in short, the works - the DLV mod (Version 6.2, EVERYTHING properly installed, M2TW 1.2 + 1.3, Kindoms 1.5, DLV 6.0 in the RIGHT path "mod", DLV 6.2 in the right path "M2TW") does crash every 3-4 turns (end of my turn, during the turns of foreign nations), making it unbelievably frustrating to play. CTD is repeatable with ALL factions and difficulty levels.

I read literally hundreds of forum pages (my head is still spinning -.-'') and now found this one, wich makes me hope for a smooth game again.

BUT: I am not familiar with this whole registry changing etc. So, could anyone make a really FOOL-PROOF step-by-step explanation of Angry Angels entry, so I do not mess up my OP. Also, has anyone tried Angry Angels solution for Windows 7 (he mentioned that he tried it only for Vista)?

PS: Is it me or does DLV 6.2 not have an uninsall.exe anymore?

Many thanks for your help and support.

As long as med2 only uses one processor the biggest beast can have a problem.

I know that, the computer was not bought for M2TW.

But could you help me with my questions?

Since it's DLV mod, ask them.
