Rescue Me

I know a few people here that frequent Ana are sometimes annoyed by my love of Rescue Me, but I felt like (at the end of this 5th season) starting a thread eventually.

First of all, can I say WTF about the season finale. I mean seriously, I wonder how this will work out.

My brother said that he heard Denis Leary saying that he was thinking of killing of Tommy and having him be a ghost like Jimmy and Johnny

What a shocker.

That being said, season 5 hasn't been all that good. Don't get me wrong, it's still better than most shows out there, but the quality has gone down since season 2 (which was the best in my opinion).

On one last note, I loved the line: "Sit down, or I will kick you in your vagina"

I thought the season finale was great. The 4th season's finale was excellent also. The 5th season, as you said, wasn't so great. It had its moments but after every episode I wondered either, What just happened? or, Well, that was anti-climactic, but I think the last two episodes were the best.

I've been a huge fan of the show since the beginning. It's one of the few shows out there that isn't like all of the others out there on the major networks that everyone watches. It has grit and pushes boundaries. To me the characters often act more lifelike than any characters on the drama shows on the major networks. Yeah, they do a lot of ridiculous stuff that is often over-the-top but at least all of the characters behave as if it was really their life.

It's also a good show to watch if you're a guy. They "bust balls", talk about "broads" all the time, drink excessively, are homophobic, have hard times expressing their feelings and so much more. I want to watch season 1 now...

The thing about season 5 was that all the episodes were great, standing alone, but it lacked that great unifying thing that seasons 1-3 had. Separately the episodes were awesome, but when put together as a whole, they were very meh (relative to other seasons, that is).

And I know crackle.com used to have all the episodes from all the seasons...I don't know what happened to them.

Meh I love Rescue Me, but I haven't been up to par with the episodes this season

Kein problem! The problem with shows that are actually good is that most of the time they aren't the most popular. People will watch that Kardasians (sp?) show and Grey's Anatomy until the day they die but I watch a single minute of those and want to hurl.

Yeah, the episodes individually were good but I agree with you about the overarching stories (or lack thereof). Something cool and interesting would happen in one episode and I'd be excited to know what would happen with that in the next and then...it wouldn't happen.

I think they might show Rescue Me on Hulu...

Well, it's good that neither therussian or I exposed the finale in detail...because it was epic and definitely a cliffhanger of sorts.

Hulu does show them, but they only show the previous 3 or so, they've gotten rid of the old seasons. And the season finale really was dramatic, definitely a major cliffhanger.

And I forgot to mention, Rescue Me has got to be one of the funniest shows on TV right now. Probably even in the past few years. There have been so many times where both me and my brother have been literally incapacitated by laughter, just rolling on the ground and flailing all our limbs.

Also, I miss Jerry. Shame. They should have brought him back as a major ghost, like Johnny or Jimmy, as opposed to just showing his back once.

Yeah, Jerry was one of my favorites. The more screen time he got the better it was. He was old school and didn't take from anyone.

OH! And how can I, or any of us Rescue Me fans, forget Diane Farr who played Laura Miles (the female firefighter)?! When she was first introduced I thought, Oh great, a female character who will ruin the show, but I really liked her character. I hated to see her go. She gave it to the guys as much as they did to her and she was womanly in her own way.

HA! Remember Jesus?! I recall a montage where he was making Jesus a sandwich and they were yelling at each other and Tommy mocked with his hands like, "Blah, blah, blah..." Hilarious!

Johnny, Tommy's brother, was another amazing character. Whenever he got pissed it was always great.

And for you hockey fans you might have noticed that Cam Neely and Phil Esposito were in it. "Pads are for pussies!"

Yeah, I didn't read your spoiler. If I did I'd get pissed, Rescue Me is one of my favorite shows and I very much like the surprises it throws at me. I know many people miss Tommy Gavin's drunken, spurts of rage and womanizing. I do kind of too, but I like nice Tommy, and I miss more Franco and Sean not going out there and slaying ladies like they used to.

Yeah, Season 1 Tommy Gavin is the best. He was even more of an and he drank like a fish! Lou is a great sidekick to Tommy even though they've sort of parted ways a bit in the last season. Sean Garrity has always been amazing. He's dumb, but not as dumb as Silletti, and his facial expressions always had me laughing my ass off. I liked Franco when he was with Susan Sarandon.

I love the whole cast. Lou is absolutely hilarious with Tommy, Sean always makes me laugh, Franco is just plain cool and Mike... well Mike has his ups and downs haha. I really enjoy that show, though. It's like really the only one that can have me laughing one second and then like "Man, that's messed up" the next haha.

I haven't seen The Shield but my ex-roommate says that is it actually better than Rescue Me! Supposedly the new FX show Sons of Anarchy is good too.

I actually saw Denis Leary, Lenny Clarke (plays Uncle Teddy) and Adam Ferarra (Needles) during their Rescue Me Comedy Tour and it was the most I've laughed probably in my life.

The Shield has to be one of the least talked about series in comparison to its quality.

I'm with everyone that wasn't all too happy with this season. The first two episodes were great but I found it hard to watch the further it got into the season. Old Tommy was great, the Jesus parts were hilarious and the 'how to treat a woman' scene is probably famous now

The Shield was also awesome, it's more gritty than Rescue Me but Sons of Anarchy imo doesn't equal the first two.

So my ex-roommate came over and we watched the entire 1st season of The Shield. Chiklis is amazing. He's such a badass! I like Dutch a lot too. I am yet undecided on whether Rescue Me or The Shield is better though. I'd like to see more character development in The Shield.

Oh my God, how could I forget Jesus and Mary Magdalene, racing away in their yellow Lamborghini! Haha, that was great. And the episode where Tommy beats the out of Johnny was amazing.

Yeah they have gotten rid of lots of good characters. I was mad when Johnny died and completely surprised when Jerry killed himself. That really made me angry!

Haha, I'm digging the Rescue Me theme Rahl.

I've never been really interested in this series but I've watched some chapters, are they were good.
