Icon5 Strange Problem with Starting a Campaign

I've been modding my descr_strat file on Stainless Steel 6.2 CO&E to make France and Kiev more realistic, and now I can't start the Early Era Campaign... All I've done is change population, starting settlement size, army and settlement allegiances...

"Can't start" means being thrown back to the main menue? In this case quit the game and check the log (you really have to quit before, otherwise the error will not appear in the log).

Not to the main menu, to a menu I've never seen before with links that don't work... I'll try anyway, thanks.

    Is this it?

Seems something happened to your original data\descr_engines file. The game can't find the mangonel in there. You will need the kingdoms version of this file, preferably from the teutonic campaign.

I have Teutonic downloaded... shall I uninstall and reinstall?

You could try to unpack teutonic and then copy that file (descr_engines.txt) over (after making a backup)

Unpack it? Does that mean extract data from the .pack files? Sorry, this must sound really dumb and annoying Or do I just go into the teutonic files and copy over?

I won't be likely to get back to this in good time, so for the record if I don't repost soon, I'm going to try to copy over files from Crusades and if that fails Britannia.

Edit: Didn't work so I'll see if I can find a program to unpack my .pack files (WinRAR doesn't work )

The descr_engines.txt contains the mangonel engine - no problem there.

    Line 14777 in your EDU:
    officer russia_captain_early_flag

The mangonel engine in that EDU is actually a few hundred lines earlier.

The log does not make sense looking at these files. Did you do some modding there?
Are these files from the mods/Stainless_Steel_6/data/ folder?

They're from the Stainless Steel data folder. I only modded descr_strat. I did download Caralampio's mod and not play it before modding so it could be that...

Edit One: Unpacking the data files now.

Edit Two: After running the unpack_all.bat I've still got all the packs there and I don't think the files are unpacked... also, the cmd.exe command prompt doesn't recognise unpacker...

Edit Three: The cause of unpack_all.bat's failure was presumably the problem I have of no hard drive space so I ran my C-Cleaner program and now there's space (and I'm running it again - file around 10325 of 36159 now)... but it deleted all my iTunes other than about thirty songs I'm going to be listening to Ry Cooder for a long time...

Edit Four: unpack_all.bat has failed again so I've given up - is there an unpacker for kingdoms?

    - The pack files will remain, you are only extracting the files - like a WinZip file.
    - You need a good amount of space - 1.1GB for the teutonic campaign alone
    - Is there an error message? How do you now the the unpacking has failed?

Default Re: Strange Problem with Starting a Campaign

I made the space, but there isn't an unpacker in Teutonic folder or an unpacker for Teutonic in the main folder, and when I run the main unpack_all.bat the files in the teutonic folder don't change.

unpack_all is for vanilla (and will add 6.6GB to your hard drive)
If you have kingdoms installed (and with it the teutonic campaign) then you should see a unpack_teutonic.bat file in the tools\unpacker directory.

Nope. Might it have something to do with my having the Gold Edition?

That is a possibility. Try the attached bat files. I modified the original ones to extract into a different folder - C:\unpack

Extract into the tools\unpacker directory and click.
