    If there is, I want to see it. I can get them working, but only barely.

    Look at GED scripting tutorials, specifically his one on scripting ancillaries which use this mechanism.

    Please take special note that you only need to have the ‘counter’ for more than one identifier, you do not need to add this if you are checking if ‘accepted’ or ‘declined’ on one choice.
    Code:
                              add_events
                                          event     counter sample_accepted
                                          event     counter sample _declined
                                          date      0
                              end_add_events
    I’ll say it in another way,

    You only need to use the code; (‘true’ is what gives you the accept or decline buttons).
    Code:
      historic_event sample true
    And check if accepted or declined later by using;
    Code:
    I_EventCounter sample_accepted = 1
    Or
    Code:
    I_EventCounter sample_declined = 1
    All that stuff with ‘add_events’ and ‘end_add_events’ and everything between is tested and confirmed to be irrelevant UNLESS you use the same event and want to test against a different counter each time you test.
