Disney buys Marvel

All you comic fans have a nice day.

The Walt Disney Co. says it is acquiring Marvel Entertainment Inc. for $4 billion US in cash and stock, bringing characters like Iron Man and Spider-Man into the Disney family.
Under the deal, Disney will acquire ownership of 5,000 Marvel characters.

Disney said Monday that Marvel shareholders will receive $30 per share in cash plus 0.745 Disney shares for every Marvel share they own.
It said the boards of Disney and Marvel have both approved the transaction, but it requires an antitrust review and the approval of Marvel shareholders

Disney owns lots of things. Nothing to worry about IMO.

Only thing I'm concerned about is Marvel Studios, they had better let them stay independent, and not screw with their movie making.

Seems to me that anything Disney owns eventually has to kowtow to the mouse.

Miramax was owned by Disney when this came out.

Disney is great, look at John Bryson: he sits on the board of the biggest media and entertainment conglomerate (Disney), the biggest defense contractor (Boeing) and the biggest foreign policy think-tank (Council on Foreign Relations).

So mass media, foreign policy and weapons. That's a nice combination don't ya think?

Honestly I don't see this changing the comics at all, at least not the already established ones. I do predict we see an Incredibles monthly comic before too long.

Also, I expect to see a Smallville style action drama about some marvel hero (or group of heroes) to spring up on ABC Family next year.

I tend to agree. Could honestly care less though. Never really a huge fan of comic books.

Pixar Presents....Wade Wilson facing his most dangerous foe ever in a battle for the ages, watch in shock as Deadpool takes on Scrooge McDuck. Seriously wonder if this will be a boost to Marvel's animated films/series end of things, it is something that DC has kicked Marvel's ass at soundly with Batman, JLA and Superman series far surpassing anything Marvel has attempted. Not to mention the direct to DVD films where again DC's offerings just blow away Marvels, try sitting thru the Iron Man direct to dvd movie vs Wonder Woman's...its like comparing Dick Tracy to The Godfather. I could definitely buy into some animated series that didnt treat the characters like a kids cartoon. Give us Marvel's version of JLA!

They already said they will not be rebranding Marvel. They made this purchase to get access to their catalog of comic book characters. That way they can make movies using their studios. And most likely TV series on their affiliates, for instance, there ABC affiliates or rebroadcast old stuff on Hulu, which they own 27% of.

Is this just Iron Man, or all Avengers character movies? (Hulk, Thor, Cap, Avengers, Ant-Man)

Doubt they have much choice in the matter, Im sure contracts are pretty binding though the sequels will be interesting as Im sure options for Avengers/Thor/Cap sequels are already there.

I'd like to see a Gargoyles comic series also.
