    Default Add/Remove Weapons...

To date, I have had an issue with the limited software released to make these changes function properly...I have succeeded in adding weapons to models...but the skin are not right, the battle_models is always a mess...adding these changed units to descr_units seems to cause further dysfunction...

Has anyone come up with a composite program to fix this yet? Or has CA released any long-promised Modding Tools yet for this old game?

Sega/CA is very bad at keeping promises!!!

Why would CA bother releasing tools for a game SO easily modified? For the most basic changes, notepad is enough. For slightly more in-depth modifications, $25 for Milkshape and Photoshop or Gimp or whatever are more than sufficient. You don't need anything more than that unless you're trying to do what Warhammer: Total War is attempting to achieve. And that's a full-game conversion mod. Let CA focus on their future games. Hopefully they won't be as disappointing as Empire:TW.

As for your weapons and armor, I'm certain I read a few tutorials around here that could help you out. Try searching for them or going through the links. The most successful way I've done this is by simply merging the model with the body that you want (Model A) with the model that has the weapons you want (Model B), and trimming the excess groups away so that you're left with Model A's body and B's weapons. That way you won't have to worry about UV-mapping or anything. Just use Model A's figure texture and Model B's attachment texture. Works like a charm.

Like Siegfried said the game is moddable in the extreme. Just ask questions on the appropriate topics, and you'll find the answer.

"If ye love wealth greater than liberty,
the tranquility of servitude greater than
the animating contest for freedom, go
home from us in peace. We seek not
your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch
down and lick the hand that feeds you,
and may posterity forget that ye were
    our countrymen."

This all may seem confusing at first but ounce you understand the way the game works, these things you want to do are really quite easy. Check out some of the tutorials.
