    Default Hellenic Factions

    ALEX TE mod.

    Hellenic Factions: Baktria
    , Epirus,Greek_Cities,Macedon,Thrace,and Seleucid.

This is the testing of Hellenic Models, currently WIP and awaiting consent in areas. Models I have found buried or scattered even in Russian mods which I have. God knows who is the owner for some? I can use the models here in TE 5 & TE Gold, but I use a different EDU & EDB system,so will not match fully,ie my costs are half of TE Gold and units are based on settlement types more over buildings.

In trying to upgrade TE via RTW,I have found DMB limiting. The Greeks have city states with unique personas in their armies akin to what you see in Spartan models. However, you have to use existing succesor type models where you can to save slots and the models for Greek City hoplites seem to lack that 'classic' feel which makes playing Greece fun. So I have to hunt around for some fun things to add spice to GC faction to make it stand apart from succesor armies!!! Maybe non historical, but as Lusted says and as CA prevents this so so,TE is not historical.

Additionally, with Topus's&Arbaces standards I have access, there is lack of good greek/hellenic standards,I have located one via Dark Fenir as my best so far as possible(to GC faction). Testing of skeletons and weapons is time consuming also-must make hoplite animations & secondary weapons work OK.

Welcome to Greece! SoR models Ok now ^_* ATG to replace current Spartans. Dark Fenir also, and ATG I have to contact. An unknown Blue IndoGreek model in Russian mod East Wind has me lost, can you identify???

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
ATG in battle with SoR & now identified EB Mod-Indo-Greek,SoR model.

    #EB Mod,SoR IndoGreek model..beautiful!!! Located also in EastWind mod-credited incorrectly to Maxmus,lol!

    Thrace

Thrace is ruled by Cotys II son of Seuthes III and Queen Karia of the Cicones from Ismara (Cotys had also gained Athenian citizenship where he is called "little Sautes" after his father,a mix up in Athenians trying to pronounce "Seuthes").

Orpheus was venerated by Greek and Thracian alike. Seuthes III was a king of the Odrysian kingdom of Thrace from ca. 330 BC to ca. 300 BC. In 320 BC, Seuthes III moved the Odrysian kingdom to central Thrace and built his capital city at Seuthopolis (Kazanluk). It was here after having to acknowledge the authority of Lysimachus that he created a helmet lamenting his lost Thrace,a mimic to Orpheus's lament at lost Eurydice. In greek theatre,a mask called a persona would express an actor's character to the audience. Thus here a King's lament to his people, and homage to the fabled Orpheus. The Odrysian Hoplite was born, and even in 'barbaric' and martial Thrace, humour and culture was shown. The comical seeming Hoplites however are the King's champions, the parody of humour with serious martial excellence, that being in honour of Orpheus, himself a Thracian king. Because the Queen herself is of Orpheus's tribe, the guard is usually found with her and has been dubbed the Hypaspistès basilissa(Queen's champions).

Greek City States, aka the Achaean Federation

Ruled by Hegemon Kleomenes of Sparta and his wife Clymene.

The League was governed by the Hegemon (Strategos Autokrator in military context) , the Synedrion (council) and the Dikastai (judges). Decrees of the league were issued in Corinth,Athens,Delphi,Olympia and Pydna. The League maintained an army levied from member states in approximate proportion to their size, and garrisoned phrourarchs in Corinth, Thebes, and Ambracia. (Note:basic data, needs update to game).

placeholder notes: Aetolian League , Achaean League , League of Corinth , Kingdom of Pergamon and Achaean Federation where possible?

CA limits factions in RTW,which means excluding such as Pergamon,Illyria etc. Because CA limits factions in RTW which makes it nigh impossible to represent the factions of the 280BC start period,I have decided for game play enhancement to merge the above groupings where possible to the Greek Cities slot. This means Greek Cities can use Pergamon(Lusted had it as default in descr_regions)and access to eastern cities with better interaction in campaign. It also makes a more interesting faction with historical ideas-armies,economy,culture etc of those Leagues. In 280BC Pergamon is close to Seleucids though,so adjusted and with Candelarius's thoughts did an AOR to Mysia hidden resource-Greek & Egypt faction access.

Pergamon AOR units(DF): Mysian Archers-LargeTown/City/LargeCity/HugeCity units.

Greek Cities phalanx I have been desperately trying to crack as far as unique and enjoyable for the game, and sadly GC phalanx is under-represented. I finally worked out somewhat to use Gloss files and try units with good gloss usage(some units in mods are too chromeish though,so over use is no good!). Hopefully you can see the reflections in the shields???

GC Phalanx(credit to RTR team and Webbird) One problem in phalanx use is the units with arms and shield all entwined,I tried to fix this in formation spacing to 1.1 or 1.2-front to back, from 1,it is a cleaner formation!!! With 60 men I use '6' ranks default so clean 10 men at front. A phalanx spear only forms good at 6 ranks,lol...

Note: Indo greek model, originally unidentified from East Wind Mod-credited to Maxmus,is a EB Mod,SoR type model. My apologies to EB team for showing this model type in advance without consent. To clarify,as I found only today,East Wind Mod where the model is found is a Maxmus variant with face mask, but EB uses a non masked model. I was confused about the two types until playtesting both together today, lol. Posted here to identify correctly.

My gratitude to Zarax for clearing this up. Rep for you. Will inform MAA and SoR of update. Please check the attachment below.

    Cheers

The skins are not mine I just rework or borrow. I have had probs with my computer graphics-lost about 9-10 TE games I worked on...(play a custom game and try to alter the unit graphics to low then back to high settings, then see the Persian Slingers etc distorted..),and had trouble with GIMP I use,but have some help there. Hopefully fixed now..sigh. So been absent for a while to complete this project.

For Barbs..I will use mainly CATW,RTR and Variag barb variations, apart from the vanilla types redone-Webbie and Warspite.

    Thanks Ponti..^_* .

    Baktria

    Colouring:Blue

The famous shrine of Anahit was found in Bactra, she was a goddess of war, fertility and waters. There is also a blue statue of her(lapis lazuli?). Blue could be used to denote her presence in the region.

For pigments, it is the 'Egyptian blue' or ultramarine colour that had puzzled historians and scientists for centuries as knowledge of its method of production had been lost. Although referred to as 'Egyptian blue', it was used throughout the middle east region, Egypt, Mycenae and the later Roman empire. The knowledge of producing the world's first synthetic pigment was strangely lost around the 9th century AD after over 4000 years of use.
It was not until the late 19th century that chemists rediscovered that the key to this pigment was lapis lazuli, a semi precious stone found only in Afghanistan. The blue stone was crushed with a mixture of sand, lime and copper and heated to between 850 and 1000 degrees C.
