Germany. Even with all the odds against them they nearly won the war. If a few things had been corrected in Operation Michael (using the Sturm-Divisionen against the weak point of the allied line rather than engaging the strongest point) they had quite a possibility to force a conclusion to the battle in France. Then those USA n00bs had to come in and give the Allies that little advantage that they needed in numbers to win the war

I agree , the allies were very mean to germany as well which was the main reason why world war 2 started

I chose France for the sacrifices made by their army and people. And plus, it's very rare France gets a look-in with any poll concerning the military... joking.

Plus the fact that the French didn't act retarded at the Somme concerning their more sensible use of artillery.

No, they just allowed their Triple Entente to wrap around Germany to prevent any Imperialism. If anything, the Treaty of Versailles was too soft (either that or the Allied reaction to German rearmament was too soft) and it then resulted in Hitler's rise to power.

No. Versailles was a slave pact not a peace treaty.
Germany especially begun to betray the treaty because it was apparently unfair and humiliating. Thanks to Versailles we got WW2.

If the war ends with a moderate settement the Entente could grab their booty still and Germany would accept that they failed. Instead of it the Central powers were trampled with a boot into the mud. No sane person thought that retibution will not follow.
In addition to that the french demanded their money from Germany when the germans had nothing to pay with.

The reasons Germany couldn't be kept in a corner are
1, you can't hold a giant for long
2, the treaty was obviously too harsh (especially given that Germany ended the war on french soil) therefore they realized that they can't enforce it fully.

Hitler rose to power democratically abeit with sordid methods. The Allies could not do anything against it as Germany was not their slave, and because the Great Crysis was not handled well by the liberals.

    Germany, for obvious reasons.

    Germans.
A friend and I once joked that German trenches were so much better, they probably had jacuzzi's in them.
More seriously, they were one of the only nations to be able to gain significant ground through tactics, rather than throwing men at the enemy.
