    Default TIP FOR VISTA-USERS

    Hello, Forum

I repeatedly experienced the painful fact that Windows VISTA guards the C/program files – folder like an eagle guards its pup !!! Regardless of invalidating all security-settings in the user account(s), VISTA frustrates any attempt to change an original game in the program files – folder. Thus, the RTW-patches and the SPQR mod-data are possibly installed in the entirely wrong directories and, besides, you have absolutely no possibility to convert e.g. the text files of RTW.
Therefore, just create a new folder under C (e.g. C/Games) and then install RTW, the patches and the respective mod in this folder. You have simply to look out for installing all data to the new path. VISTA has absolutely no interest in the new folder and you can play your RTW-modification unstressed and without any Windows-Problem.

    Regards Marcel

I believe turning of User Account Control (UAC) should solve your problem, or possibly change permissions. Vista is an odd thing, and can be unpredictable at times.
I apologise if I am of no help.
    /?
Edit: You wouldn't happen to have an internal folder like Data, or any other files inside open? Close them.

no i think that vista still protects those files, it just doesn't do all the other stuff (like ask you six times if yes you do want to install something)
