Fast speed. Diplomacy. Slider moves. Trading. Build army. Restructure the army. Build stuff. Decide upon what provinces to get in a peace-deal.
Have you ever seen Dirty Harry Guns and money are best diplomacy

Those are about the same things that I do as well. Stabilizing the country, working on the economy and rebuilding and restructuring the army for improved efficiency. Working on possible friendships and/or alliances (depending on what game you're playing) with other factions can have it's benefits as well.

Build up my colonies, clean up my nation (disbanding units that are standing around, combining forces and putting navies in strategically useful locations), colonize some more, build up economy, and ultra-fast speed!

You should always be plotting, or at least suspecting your neighbours of plotting the AI is not to be trusted! A period of peace is simply a period of preparation!

Yeah basically I spend my spare time putting fat stacks near my enemies, earning cash through any means possible, and sending spies left, right and centre to try and disrupt anyone bigger than me. But mainly you've just got to sit tight and let your manpower replenish, and wait until you're thrown another opportunity from a warning or whatever

I usually start with a poop faction so I have a lot of work to o and a lot of time on my hands but I like to build an empire by conquering nations that are waker then me but when I took over south africa I never tough I would get all that manpower I then became an Empire
I check into small hotel a few kilometers from Kiev. It is late. I am tired. I tell woman at desk I want a room. She tells me room number and give key. "But one more thing comrade; there is one room without number and always lock. Don't even peek in there." I take key and go to room to sleep. Night comes and I hear trickling of water. It comes from the room across. I cannot sleep so I open door. It is coming from room with no number. I pound on door. No response. I look in keyhole. I see nothing except red. Water still trickling. I go down to front desk to complain. "By the way who is in that room?" She look at me and begin to tell story. There was woman in there. Murdered by her husband. Skin all white, except her eyes, which were red. I tell her I don't give a . Stop the water trickling or give me refund. She gave me 100 ruble credit and free breakfast. Such is life in Moscow

Improving relations, buildings, colonies, recover from last war and all that, in big wars things often get too hectic so I do those things at peace

Research, diplomacy, colonization, army-building, stabilization and generally making the period prosper. You will have enough army to start a war.

Anybody here get the "It's too decadent" event? Your empire is too peaceful and wealthy, so shakes things up. I kinda laughed at it.

I shore up any lose ends, get some merchants into action, build a larger army or disband units no longer required. I do enjoy exploring so I get an exploration fleet into action when I don't need to worry about an angry fleet over the horizon.

I also have one of my books near at hand so I can read.
