Default [Strat Map Wonders Discussion] Goryeo

    Hey Folks,

Asking the help of researchers our team has, and the ones we are about to have.

The Goryeo faction needs some Eye-Catcher buildings for the Strat Map, we already have a fortress model, and the Imperial Palace is to be done by me as well.

But ofcourse we are going to need some more

Could the Research Department please provide us with pictures and names of Buildings that are:

    -Eye Catchers(Special).
-From the Period of our mod. (around 1171 A.D.)
-Bigger format pictures than 640x480 please.
-There is no limit to the number of pictures, just when it becomes to much of a picture spam fest it might be better to give links to websites
-Spoiler Tags will come in handy
-Another thing which is very important is the location of the wonder. We don't want wonders to be packed in one area, while the rest remains empty, if you could find a map of the faction(country) and mark the wonder's location with a dot, that would be great.

Thanks are extended in advance, but may be repeated after your posts as well

All right something I can help on

Lets see the following wonders are directly from the history book- If you want the citation please send a PM

1- The Great Wall of Chyeon Lee
It span from the tributary where the Yalu empties in the West all the way west ending in the small Military town of Doryeon-Po. It was not a single wall but a main wall with many other small walls sprouting out like branches of a tree (One wall will be fine). The purpose was to guard Goreyo from invasions of the Mongol and the Malgal from the north and west. It started construction around 1032 and finished roughly around 1044 and stood for more than 200 years.

(Its in North Korea so it is not a lot of visuals available. In short, it is a shorter version of the Great Wall of China, but walls were said to be Dark Grey.)

2- Daejang-gyung (Great Temple) It was constructed around 1202 and finished around 1488 (it was destroyed 3 times and rebuilt 5 times) Remains still stand today

The Wall sounds very nice mate, actually I would like the idea of smaller walls sprouting out the bigger one like a tree. Quite original since it looks like the Jin wall, that feature would make it unique

But I think we have to wait with this a while since its almost certainly going to become just as big a project as the Jin Dynasty Wall.

Have any more pictures of Daejang Gyung Temple for me?
I'd like to get an overview of the temple(seeing as much as possible )

And if you have more recommendations for Goryeo please post you're helping out a bunch.

Another important strat map wonder is the 9-story pagoda that was destroyed during the mongol invasions. I will deliver more details soon.

I have to prepare doing websurfing to search for images from internet.

I suppose you need Temples, Pagodas, ets.

    I will research.

p.s. Sorry to say that, this pictuer offered by Stellover is not Goryeo's Wall. It's Chinese castle(I don't know the Name)

Below is a typical Chinese Citadel Style.

Cheon Lee(means 1000miles) Great Wall is vanished in North Korea. I'll show you something like Goryeo Great Wall.

Well you know Korea better than I do Toki

Most of what I need, I have explained in Post 1 of this thread.

Furthermore what I need is buildings that are Special, these can be temples, castles etc. but also statues, it is mostly up to you to determine if the buildings look special enough, and then provide research as in 'pictures' please

What I mean is that I don't like to see 3 temples that look almost exactly the same from above (strat map view) so variety would be nice

    <Hwang-Ryong(皇龍 Imperial Dragon) Great Temple>

in Kyeong-Ju, Kyeong-Sang province of Goryeo, South Korea

The Big Buddist Temples and wooden Pagodas in there in Goryeo

; But these are constructed in previous age(A.D.7th century), the "Three Kingdoms Age", not in Goryeo Dynasty

These temples are all burned out during Mongolian invasion.

Mongols had burned and destroyed almost of the essential architectures in pninsula for revenge

because Goryeo government did not surrender and had kept fighting against them for 30 years.

Finally Goryeo government surrendered after all the territory changed to ruins, hundreds thousands of people's massacred.

So these pictures are the miniatures and 3D CG based on ancient documents and ruins.

In record, it is said thst the Hwang-Ryong Temple was the biggest mostly well-known buddist temple in Asia in that world.

The Hwang-Ryong Temple is in 1st image and its 9 floors Pagoda(270 feet high) in 4th pic.

In Goryeo, Temples are the most important economic cores in national economy, so called "Temple-Economy".

Buddist Temples were magnificently massive Producers and also Consumers at that time.

A city which had Big Temple in it, prospered.

Temples meant commercial, manufactural place as well as relligeous place to Goryeo people.

Temples owned massive manors and manufature workshops and controled the wealthy merchants.

To protect their profits, each Temple had Monk Warriors, just like Sohei in Japan.

Temples co-owned each other the distribution network throughout the nation, or compete with each other. So....

After Big temples were burned to be vanished because of Mongolian Invasion, the Economy of Goryeo collapsed to be bankrupt.
    became poor Kingdom

This Eye-capture is the restoration miniature of Hwang-ryong Temple in Kyeong-Ju National Museum.

    dimension 20.2 Acre

    Draft of Hwang-Ryong Temple

Restoration Miniature of the 9 stroy-Great Wooden pagoda in center of the Temple.

    Height 80.18m (236.06 feet) A Side 22.2m

    CG of the Pagoda

<7 story-Wooden Pagoda of Cheong-Am(靑巖 Blue Rock) Temple> (restoration miniature)

in Pyeonyang, North Korea , Buk-gye province of Goryeo

built in 6th century, existed in Goryeo Dynasty.

<Mi-Reuk(彌勒 Budda in Future) Great Temple>

in city of Ik-san, South Korea, Chol-la Province of Goryeo

    built in 7th century.

    restoration miniature in Ik-san Museum

You can see 3 Pagodas in the Temple. The Midle Pagoda is Wooden just like that of Hwang-Ryong Temple,
But there are 2 more White Pagodas made of Stone in the both sides of Wooden Pagoda.

So Mi-Reuk Temple is 1 Temple - 3 Pagada style, but Hwang-Ryong Temple is 1 Temple - 1 Pagoda Style.

I want you to consider this variety of temple-Pagoda style in Korea.

9 story-Wooden Pagoda in the center of the Temple (restoration miniature)

    Height About 40m (132 feet)

One of the 2 White Pagodas made of Stone in the both sides of Wooden Pagoda. (restoration)

    Height about 26m (85.3 feet)

The Remains in the foundation of the White Stone Pagoda.

    The Ruin of Mi-Reuk Temple

The Draft of Restoration of Mi-Reuk Temple

Oh and could you tell us:

    -What it is?
    -What year its build?
-And where in Goryeo are these buildings? They also need a spot on the campaign map. Please read the first post again, I am asking for a picture of a map with the wonders marked on it, then we know where to place them

I think the thing with pagodas is there needs to be defining features in the roofs in order for it to look good on the strat map. Flat roofs look a bit odd and we have a couple of them like that already. The 'Cheong-Am' one is interesting for instance, since its roofs curve up like a sail, something which could presumably be accentuated.

Awesome stuff to work with Toki!

Chris does have a point as well.
But colours also come into play, for example a complete white pagoda is kinda new for us at this moment, which is good.

    A question:
Got any famous Big Buddhist Chedi's or Stupa structures in Korea at the Year 1171 A.D.?
They would be a nice addition!
I've seen dozens in Thailand(not the right date though) but maybe in Korea as well?

I'll make a list of buildings to use from your research when I have the time

Thought we had a white one up in Jin lands, forget what it was called though. It might have had tinges of yellow on parts, not that it matters of course.

Yuelu Academy I think you are referring too, the building had its white parts yes.
But wasn't completely white like pagoda above, not was its roof

I think Chris is referring to the White 'Qingzhou' pagoda near Linhuang in the Jin territory. It was built by the Liao. one of the first buildings we did. can't remember if you or I made it !

As far as these Goryeo pagodas go, I think we only need pick and choose a few from tokimitsu's research. That bridge should be in for sure. The Korean peninsula only occupies a small part of the map, and whilst its true they had extensive monumental architecture during our era, we don't want to overcrowd this part of the map. Maybe go for 3 or 4 wonders ?

Ah yes Qingzhou, indeed I made that one and you textured it.

4 Korean wonders? Sounds fine, it'll wrap this faction up pretty quickly.
In that case we got all we need right here with Toki's research and this Strat Wonder Thread has served its purpose.
I'll make the list in the near future and close the thread.

@Tokimitsu, would you mind helping out with the research of the other factions now that Goryeo is finished? We are a bit short-handed and could really use your information if you have any on the other factions?
