Icon5 Play on Hard or Very Hard difficulty?

I heard it was recommended to play on Hard difficulty for both Campaign and Battle settings. But is there really a difference between hard and very hard? My campaign has been going well so far, maybe I should have set it to very hard for both of them. I do admit, I have been using money cheats (just to buy mercenaries). I just pretend Rome has some Federal reserve system where all this money is saved up, lol. Anyway is Very Hard really harder then hard difficulty? For both campaign and Battle settings.

Its basically no extra challenge. VH in battles is broken in RTW engine and providing actually less challenge, hardest it should be Hard battles VH campaign but since entire world is agaisnt you, there isnt much to change, AI has already huge bonuses to everything

I built the game and I play on M/M and find it challenging. lol SO A person needs to look at HOW they are playing that makes them want to play on VH when the designer plays on M/M? Several factors HOUSE RULES, check them out, and use garrison script and record your losses in the KILL SHEET, then you wont want VH as you will see those losses are not always fun. I think people are playing the mod wrong, using all one type of unit etc. This will RUIN ANY MOD for RTW.

Not to recruit new legions in Capua with the exact same units as the ones in the legions you start with is fail.
    IMHO.

When I get the more advanced barrack's (in Capua first) I recruit new legions with five hastati, five principes, three triarii, two velites, two slingers, two equites and a general.
I also retrain the remains of my previous legions...

I just love playing with those legions on the battlefield (using historical accurate strategies and to see that they work is really fun...)

i thought using cheats of any kind would mess up the game. anyway, it's quite cheap to hire mercenaries since they improve your starting armies a lot in the beginning and are not affordable by then (especially cav). i play m/m and always thought it's a decent setting. playing a challenging modification and then using cheats is pointless anyway

Mercs saved my 6.4 sorry butt in the beggining. Had one army almost entirely composed of mercenaries. They can take any Gaul army down easily. Very handy in the early years.

About using the same units, at the famous battle where hanniball enveloped a roman army of 80.000 men.
Didn't that army contain fresh units of hastati mostly that they recruited only to beat hannibals army?
Then wouldn't it be ok to recruit an army of hastati when in time of crysis?

Extreme situations takes extreme solutions to prevail... Whatever makes your boat float. I did this myself my first campaign in 6.4 when I took too heavy losses in the initial battles, replenishing the holes with Hastati until I was able to recruit legions with normal composition. I wouldn't say this would be against the rules, as long as you're aware of that its not supposed to be the normal case.

Exactly, Its when you make ALL 20 slots hastati that there is a problem. But yes until you get the barracks you only have the option of hastati.

True, I use mercs also, but usually a personal Rule to fill in the gaps when I can reinforce a legion that has fought many battles, Also I use Mercs in Sieges. Let them get killed first them finish the town with the Legions. But over all IF you build your empire right and have 1-2 Fleets and the propper number of Legions and auxilia there isnt a ton of Money for Mercs, only way is cutting back somewhere else.

Yes dead mercenaries X siege battles = affordable

I use mainly gaulic cavaly, skirmishers and italian spears at the begginning o fthe game... until I can develop my barracks to pump out equites, triary and principe... otherwise hastati all te way

You have always option to fill the gap. I personally just recently scraped some units of hastati (merged) in my expanding legion and filled the place with auxilia cavalry (mercs) and some extra skirmishers. WOrks just as fine

i just played a battle and fnished with what ammounted to 1 squad of principes, I rushed in 4 squads of hastati from a nearby town to fill the gaps, thats ok right? i plan to replace them with principes once my nearby town is equiped with the neccessary barracks.
