    Default Ramming Ships

    We all know that's impossible to do in Empire. However I had this idea: There is a galley that is used by non european fleets. It shoots from the front. Now we could reduce the range of its canon so that it must be very close to the ship in order to move. So close that it looks like its ramming the ship. We modify the ship's model a bit and we have a galley that can ram ships. Is that possible?

    This was possible until you said 'modify the model'
    We cant do it until we get modding tools. So we'll just gave to wait till february

    They are releasing mod tools in february? Still, it could be nice to see even if the model was not modified...

    They said in when the game was released that they were expecting people to make their own tools.

    Im just curious what do you intend to accomplish by 'ramming' the ship?

    I mean you can already run into or ram other ships in the game and knock them off course and such. It makes a big clunk and soon they sort themselves out.

    To add to that, often times when ships run into each other at high speeds, their masts collapse from the impact which can be pretty disastrous.

    Yeah, i was gonna say. Ramming is an all around stupid idea. I've had it happen accidentally several times and it never turns out well for anyone.

    Ramming is not useful in this game. But it could be used in ancient era based mods.

    Thanks for that.

    Anyway I am not at all interested in seeing any ramming in vanilla. However, it could be used in mods that deal with ancient warfare.

    Isnt ramming in the game? I remember hearing one of the devs talk about it in a preview a long while back.

    Yes ramming is in the game. However, like said it it usually bad for all ships involved. It is silly how the galley doesn't do any damage when it rams ships front on.

    Opressor is right, but if you were to strengthen the front of the galley and (at least slightly) weaken its target (in the files, you understand, not with a barrage of cannonballs), you could ram, however, if ramming were successful, the ram was quite likely to get stuck, and often boarded. As the Empire engine can't support this, it can't happen sadly. I still say QED, however, because it's REALLY satisfying. QED.
