That it is! In 1215, garrisoned by rebel barons, the castle endured an epic siege by King John. Having first undermined the outer wall, John used the fat of 40 pigs to fire a mine under the keep, bringing its southern corner crashing down. Even then the defenders held on, until they were eventually starved out after resisting for two months.

That's Limburg Cathedral unless I'm not confusing it with something else.
It is indeed Limburg an der Lahn, pic taken when I was there 2 year ago.
A little anecdote, my province in the Netherlands has the same name as the German city and for the provincial elections which are held later this month one of the national parties (fairly new, pseudo-intellectuels going a bit too much towards the alternative facts side for me) used a pic of this cathedral on its provincial election poster. Real intimate knowledge of the province indeed.
Quintus Hortensius Hortalus got it first so it's his turn but I've repped both of you.
Thanks and wow, it's amazing how stupid people can be. I recognized the building from the news as there was a scandal involving the bishop some time ago. It had to do with waste of church money and golden bathroom furniture IIRC.
