Actually, I was thinking of posting Arda river, instead of the presented one, but I changed my mind, since I found it pretty difficult.
Well, Neoptolemos is right. It's indeed Nestos River, one of the best spots for train-watching (by the way, when I said Imperial Railways, I was referring to the Otoman Empire)!
Well, as you probably already know, I will ask from another gentleman to rep the winner, on behalf of me.
@Neoptolemos
It certainly reveals the beauty of the scenery.
As a fan of trains, I have been above the other side of the tunnel, watching various trains passing below me.
Mainly these:

That is certainly the castle of Methoni in Messenia, Greece. A friend of mine is from that region and he has a pic of that castle on his facebook
Lots of interesting history there and I believe that castle is originally Ottoman (or possibly Venetian/Italian on second thought)

Here we go, not too hard:
What is the name of the building in the foreground and what is this city?
Fairmont Chateau Laurier in Ottawa, it seems.
Correct, your turn! Just out of curiosity, what gave it away? I don't know many non-Canadians that recognize our capital
I first googled pretty much every big city on the British Isles before switching to Quebec. I recognized it when looking at pics of Montreal and because I misinterpreted the title of the article it was in, I searched Montreal for a while. The article was about Ottawa and how it was just a few hours from Montreal but I read it the other way first.
Okay, here's a new one:
Looks quite British.
The left flag seems to be the EU one. The one on the right, err, resembles the one of the Vatican...
I would rather have a memory that is fair but unfinished than one that goes on to a grievous end.
I was too looking at the flags.
Had a check around, the only national flag with yellow and white is the one from Vatican infact, but the place does not look italian at all, so it can be that that flag is some regional or anyway local one.
I think the one in the middle would be resolutive, but more than anything the column with the crown can be indicative, but I can't seem to be able to find any ref to it
a hint ?

Too easy and too predictable, LolIsuck. I'll pass.
Hint: The flag of Vatican city is used worldwide by catholic institutions and churches.

I bet it's something Dutch again...
EDIT: What's that thing on the stone pillar in front of the flags? A crown?

2.
It should be Seville, someone posted the same pic a long time ago here.
since no one has posted in a few days, here is a new pic:

it's not very well known, so i'll give a hint first off: it's not quite a city - more of a [smallish] town, but the region it is within is very well known (along with some of it's .... )
Rutherglen, Australia am i right?
