I was thinking about the Blue Mosque in Istanbul because of the minarets but it has 6 and I couldn't see any location in Istanbul where that pic could have been taken. So my guess is the Selimiye mosque in Edirne.

Selimiye is the correct answer! The horse cart and the mosque in the background give a very oriental feeiling!

Trying to think of a clue that won't give it away immediately. Let's just say this venue is like the opposite of the ancient arena in that it has the sand outside the building

You are correct! Believe it or not, it got a 'sustainability award'. First stadium ready for the 2022 world cup.

Hmm, I'm not sure this is guessable, Quintus. As a type of landform it's not that distinctive.

Oh well, let's have a rough guess. Somewhere in the Orkneys?

Sorry for the hard time. But you're close although it's not the Orkneys. The general idea however is correct.

Shetland islands would have been my second guess.

Ok 2 days gone. Time for a hint. I am assuming you will guess what part of the world this is generally and what kind of man made structure ( ) we're looking at. Knowing this, what might help is to know that this body of water is a river.

I'm at a loss here. Judging by the trees this is probably a more Mediterranean climate and the bridge looks fairly modern but that's about it. Balance of probability says somewhere in Southern Europe is the most likely answer here but for what appears to be quite a sizable river I can't find it for the life of me. This isn't a reservoir, is it?

It's in the southern hemisphere Mediterranean climate occurs at these latitudes, but in this particular case the climate is oceanic. Vegetation seems similar to me too though.
