Land und Meer hotel on the northeastern shore of Helgoland is the white and brown row of houses.
Correct! You found it pretty quick, I thought Heligoland would be a tad more obscure![]()
This was something of a psychic event. I thought that the lack of anything to work on in the picture per se might mean that the place itself is unusual. With the idea of this being somewhere on the North Sea coast (thank you Sumskilz for mentioning the German coast in a private channel), I thought of Heligoland and zoomed in on the island, immediately centering on the right spot without having to look around the island.
Spooky stuff, and a great pick by you, Dan! Both unusual locations without so many clues and usual locations with more hints to work on can make for an enjoyable experience of discovery in the Guess Where competition. Here is the next one.

Gyros repped. No answer on the newst riddle yet, though.
Good job! There are 4 tanks there if I am not mistaken, 3 M47s and 1 M41. This place used to be a shooting range for the West German military and it was later turned into a natural park. But the Bundeswehr can still close it if they feel like shooting again there for whatever reason.
What I don't understand is why people have put them under "sights" on google maps![]()
Valley of tears perhaps? (Golan Heights)
Not quite, but close enough since you’ve still got the correct answer in there.
As you know, the valley of tears is along the approach to the heights from the east, where so many Syrian tanks were destroyed during the 1973 war. This is actually a WWII German Sturmgeschütz III that the Syrians had dug in just behind the crest of the heights as a defensive position during the 1967 war. The Syrians had several of them as well as some Panzerkampfwagen IVs.
I think that particular one is in the disputed area southeast of Tel Dan. I haven’t been there since 2015, and I went with people who knew their way around. At the time, there were still a lot more landmines than there are today. I assume that some of the tanks show up on google maps, but I don’t know if that one does.
EDIT: The visible lowland is the Hula Valley.
This is in Ashdod-Yam, Israel. An old fortress known as Minat al-Qal'a, built by the Umayyads. Later known as Castellum Beroart by the crusaders.
Right you are! Your turn![]()
