    Default Odd problem

    Hi

I have an odd problem with my mod. When I go into the custom battle menu, then out again, then into the campaign menu, the mod ctd. If I start up the game and just take a custom battle, then there is no problem. If I startup the game and go directly into the campaign menu and start a game, no problem. I can also start up a campaign game, exit it and then go to custom battle menu (but can't go back to campaign menu without ctd). The log is not giving me anything.

A lot of mods have this problem and no one seems to know what is causing it. My guess would be the mtw2.lnt, as this file affects how the menu operates.

It has been driving me nuts, not finding what causes it.
Causes some nasty outbursts, particularly when testing battle units.

Is it not down to the number of faction map.tga's in the imperial_campaign folder?
Adding these for extra factions somewhere above the vanilla number seems to causes it.
Just using the map_FE seems the best soloution...

Here is something that I think will be very interesting for you guys: our mod, having all new factions, does not have this problem! Nor the problem of crashing after clicking on too many factions. I can literally click on as many factions in the Grand Campaign menu as I want, and go into any one of them with no crashes. I can go into any of the menus, back out, and into any of the other menus.

So, I am forced to conclude that CA merely added its own factions somewhat improperly, but that the engine itself is not to blame.

If these factions were added improperly then why does the vanilla M2TW not suffer from these problems? Most likely the problem is caused by an error in the mod.

We really need to test when this bug starts occuring. For example does it occur if you add a new unit, faction, building, etc.

SigniferOne does your mod contain a shared.sd or strategy.sd file? Also could you upload the mtw2.lnt you use it case you've added something to your version that we are missing.

Doesn't it? I was under the impression that the vanilla also had the issue.

    Yes. As (edited) xml files.

    Sure thing, in a few.

My menu bug came when I added faction number 27. I take backups every time I have added a faction and can see the problem starts when I add more than 26 factions (including slave).

The other problem I got is that my mod can't show more than 21 factions in the Imperial campaign menu. The mod has 28 factions at this point.

It's something I've wondered since noticing that DLV is probably the worst mod for this issue.

Could descr_sm_factions be playing part in this?

Clutching at straws really but not many mods include hording so I wonder if that is what is causing the increased crashing. If it is then... well, you see why I am eyeing descr_sm_factrions with some suspicion...

There is other buggy stuff I notice like the on the faction statistics scrolls you cannot select 4 of the factions, I think because they're outside the selectable area. As if something is messing with the list.

As you can see I really know virtually nothing about this file but I get like a geeky spider-sense tingling about these issues and descr_sm_factions...

Well we have no horde factions whatsoever, at least for now.

I could upload our descr_sm_factions.txt if anybody wanted to take a look at it.

Yeah, I'd appreciate that. I'm probably way off but it would be nice to investigate as far as possible (within the limited range my geeky-sense provides).

    edit:

Ah nevermind, mate. I just stripped it pretty bare (no hording) and no change in crashing behaviour. I know that it's compounded by having 31 factions but SS seems much more stable in this regard than DLV and I think they have that many too.

It's not stripping it bare you have to do; it's not the EDU or EDB that's the problem, but all of the files that pertain to the creation of a faction.

You're probably right, but I think in this case it might be the existance of 31 factions. I just checked SS and they have 30 not 31 and they still have problems as a result of it.

    I think we're a faction overweight.

But then it doesn't matter at all once you start playing the actual game. The menu is just the menu afterall

Hm, I've never experienced this, but then we've only utilized 15 faction slots + 4 utility faction slots(I think ). And like Sig they aren't from Vanilla.

As far as I know (or at least have been told), this bug only affects mods that have custom campaigns. Apparently it's do with how CA enabled us to have multiple campaigns.

That's unfortunate if it's true. A provincial campaign seems to just be a maps folder and an interface change, has anyone tried taking a mod which has custom campaigns and removing the added maps sub-folders to see if it gets resolved by only the presence of the main campaign?

There are also changes to the menu files though. My guess is that it is there that the problem lies.

You need this extended LNt Datei in your data\menu folder. I added more slots for the campaign screen. Can't remember the max.
