The time of Charlemagne would be EPIC for a TW game, after searching, I haven't found any other related mods. Does anyone think this is a good idea and want to help?

Dude, where are my legions?- Augustus Caesar, after Varus's defeat at Teutoberg Wald.

What is Charlemagne?
I'm guessing he's talking about this Charlemagne.
... Now I know exactly who he is, and yes that would be great to mod.
Medieval infantry from the 700s, armored knights, bowmen/crossbowmen. There is surprisingly little concerning the armies except the old texts and illustrations. The holy roman empire should give some hints about it.

i think this mod idea would be perfect for rome: total war. i tried once myself but i was never able to finish: first since i suck at modding and second since i did not have enough time. i could give you some info for faction ideas and cities of the time if you are still interested.
- beta tester for Paeninsula Italica
I think it may be difficult to do considering not much info is provided about the man. his biography stated that he was 300 years old and before he died...
I have a feeling a lot of it was fudged lol
But I guess that could work to your advantage as well, allowing for creativity.
Definitely playable if you can make it.
but Much of the literature from that time is gone/destroyed/damaged
you would have to do a ton of research I think...
A professor of mine, back in the first two years of college wrote his docterate on Charlemagne
it was almost 800 pages

It'd probably be for BI, just to keep things current... we could replace the frankish tribes with the Holy Roman Empire.... Also, We just need to know about major battles/skirmishes, weapons and armor, and we should be fine to start!

You may find some infos in VTW-mod (in development), Francia-thread.
VTW starts 840, not too much has changed unit &civilisation -wise since Karlos time, so maybe peeps are useful.
'Charlemagne' is a latinsated form, may have been used that time only by the lower (gaulish-) classes (peasants?) in the Frankish imperium.
If you dig deeper you may find a lot more, but I suggest it would help, if you have french and german speaking members in your research team. There is surprisingly little concerning the armies except the old texts and illustrations
->A lot of english-language maps and info of that thema are wrong/bad, also funny thing: English is mostly from old Saxon, so its the language of the enemies of the Frankish imperium.
By the way, I dont think crossbows was widely in use in middle europe in 800, nor should you see the Francish 'Scara' like medieval 'knights'.
The info of 'heavy armour protection' of the Frankish-elite-cavalry, is only because it was widely uncommon for the masses of troops that time/area, to have armour.
In Germania/Scandinavia often only leaders had helmets (mainly used as status symbol) and not uncommon seen the oppinion that armour-wearing people would have not enough courage/skillls (check berserkers).
Also guess in the more rainy climate of middle/north europe, such iron-protection would easily rust, besides it dont helps much in the woods/swamps there at all.
Anyway, also I find it funny that CA has so much nearly naked 'barbarians', especial in the middle europe/north/british islands: If you know that climate there, you know there are only few months in the year, where you would risk to run that way around, without catching a flue.
Guess that stories of 'naked' barbarians, one could only belive in sunny south italia, never leaving the security of warm, servant driven, comfortable upper-class household.
Sure it may be possible that the roman legions fought only against 'naked' barbarians, but that not because those 'barbarians' where often 'naked', more possible, because those italian-sunshine-troops did not risk to step a foot outside their fortresses in middle europe while cold spring/autum/ or -worse: winter.
