The Battle At the River Tiber
a m2tw experience written by Frederich Barbarossa
A new europe was springing. The dark ages were thinning into dust. Our barbaric nations of Europe, were finally realizing a new threat. The Germanians known for their barbaric past were finally creating an empire, the most serene republic of Venice, flourishing in its utter greatness. But, a new threat entered the scene... an apocalyptic war of unimaginable proportions swept in, in the years to come. It all started with the Coronation of Emperor Heinrich the Chivalrous in 1080 AD. He was the first true king of the Germans, expanding his realms, from the rhine in the west, to the northern banks of the danube in Wien (Vienna). He had power and glory, thus was smart enough to make alliances quickly and swiftly. He began negotiations with Milan to be able to expand to Italy, and with Venice to keep trade interest in the Adriatic. He made marriage alliances with the Hungarians in the east, to be able to have a secured Eastern portion. Thus he saw Denmark. This small but potencial threat was nearing his people, as a bolt of lighting. He knew however, that war was too soon, and that he would cause the destruction of both empires. A war with Milan would ensue do to this chaos, a betrayal by Italian merchants infuriated him. The Venecians came next... Once great allies they betrayed his majesty, like thieves at the night. And thus the great Southern Wars, known as the Tuscan Wars started on 1250 AD. The war involved so much carnage, with only the capture of Rome, and with Pope Gregory Dead at the emperors feet. A great battle however ensued to create this reality. The battle of the river tiber. A surrounded German force, running in panic do to being both outnumbered and surrounded. Only one obstacle gave Rome the victory it was waiting for, to being an invasion into the Alps and then into the German Heartland. A couragous emperor saw his foe from the other side, waiting... The Emperors patience let him stay where he was for some time. The italians react first, thinking their numbers could help them, the Swiss Pikemen begin to run towards their own relatives, at a high warcry. Volleys of Archers begun to scortch the Earth, and a cloud in the sky was brought over to the Italians. Soldiers falling of the bridge, young men crying in pain, but they continued. From the banks of the other side, Italian crossbowmen did the same to our soldiers. And thus we sent our soldiers in... They charged with a warcry no greater then King Richard“s himself, when he beat the Saracens at Tyre. If the Germans are to win this battle, they are able to expand freely through Italy, and through the rest of Eastern Europes. France was Allied to them, but were being depleted by the English in the North, and Portuguese to the South. A cavalry charge ensued against the Italians, when the German Infantry retreated back to their bank and created an opening. Thus, by then they were running, depleted, and with the Pope dead... However, yet another challenge existed, and this one was not as easy... Our forces were tired and spent, they were half numbered, lost too many, and have ran out of ammo for volleys. What to do.... Only time tells.
