kinnda hard when i have no troop that fits that space...for some settlements

also i do remeber i placed some archers once, (they were less so they did fit in) but i was lookin at the gate and still the same, the orcs were just waiting in line to get killed....

Are you sure, that your settlements walls are upgraded high enough? Lower tier walls won`t support boiling oil.

    i was expecting this question

but castle says it has boiling oil, Huge city walls have it too (osgiliath in this case)

non of it worked, osgiliath for example, i needed like a unit with only 3 men in it so they would fit that tiny space over the gate....

You don't have to have units on the gate, you just have to control the walls, so if you don't have units on the walls near the gate, you'll instantly lose control as soon as an enemy steps through.

Place a group of archers in either side of the gate and if this does not work
I read about a boiling oil bug somewhere, use the search button or at least go to the BUG (REPORTS) AND TECHNICAL HELP subforum,
(jeez when will people figure out what that means.)

i'll try the your tip in custom battles and see if it works

EDIT: lol the game crashes when i try to select a settlement level, with the famous unspecified error thing, no matter, minas ithil is under siege by mordor, i'll see what happens there

(Minas ithil is a citadel, and it has burning oil, or so it claims )

    oh and thx pantz

I don't have boiling oil... I thought TATW team has removed it. I know how it works but nothing happens though it doesn't matter to me so much. I just use flame arrows instead.

In 10 battles in a row Mordor attacked East Osgiliath and in every battle I had had the boiling oil simply burning them down. One spearmen unit just behind the gate and archers on the left and on the right on the walls.

Not sure what the problem is. Boiling oil is one of my favorite things for destroying trolls :p I don't even have many men near the gate, I usually leave them in a V shape for the enemy to run into and get surrounded with archers on either side of the gate ontop of the wall. It was definitely not removed from TATW

This problem goes along with other script problems like not getting the welcome message, or not getting the barracks upgrade notifications. I had to re-install MTW2 to fix the errors, and once I did that boiling oil started working again.

My scripts are ok, but boiling oil still doesn't work in my TATW... It works in vanila and SS thought.
