Questions about MTW 2 Gold Edition, patch, and mods

I'm curious if the Gold Edition requires the 1.5 patch. I plan on using a few mods, namely the retrofit and the Grand Unit Addon mods. Will I need the patch to use these mods properly?

I don't know for certain that the mods you mentioned require the 1.5 patch for Kingdoms but it's best to get it anyway. The 1.5 patch fixes a number of gameplay problems in Kingdoms. Mostly scripted events but also a few random hardcode issues.

And to answer directly yes your Gold edition does need to be patched but remember to download the appropriate patch for your game (i.e. if you're running the US Gold then get the patch for US Gold, get the UK patch for UK, etc.) Good luck!

Alright, do you know where I can download a US version? I've been to a few sites but last time the downloads didn't work properly.

Try the mirrors at the Total War site: http://www.totalwar.com/index.html?lang=us

Just go to the "Support" tab on the lower left of the screen and click through to what you need. If you're having trouble with the downloads try disabling your anti-virus and anything else that's resident in memory. I'd keep any firewall up but the rest can be paused as long as you trust the site you're downloading from. Good luck!

Okay, I found the patch finally. But how exactly do I install it? I mean, do I simply open it or do I need to move it into a specific folder?

My advice is to make a new folder named "Patch 1.5" in your M2 folder and save it there. That way you'll have it in case you need to reinstall. After that just run the Setup.exe file and everything should install correctly.

It seems so and most of it works like it should, but strangely whenever you send in a spy or assassin somewhere, the cutscene event doesn't show. It doesn't even appear in one of the small windows that float down from the left side of the campaign map. It's as if the entire thing isn't supposed to exist.

The cutscenes and movies all require these goodies. I don't know how up to date your system is but I know these will help.http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...a/default.mspx. Windows Media Player 11.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en. The latest .Net framework.
Also make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card.

Alright, the only thing I downloaded and installed sucessfully was the Directx 9. Thankfully it did the trick, now I can view the cinematics. Also, the .Net framework had a problem installing itself, got a full loading bar and then it just sat there like a rock in a driveway. Had to close it through the Task Manager. Anyway, thanks for all the help.
