I'm currently reading David Chandler's The Campaigns of Napoleon, and it outlines the Italian campaign quite well. That may be a good place to start.

I was looking about buying a book or two on Napoleon in Italy a while back, but it is kind of hard to find books exclusively on that subject that have gotten good reviews. Perhaps I didn't look thoroughly or there is just not much out there because his other accomplishments overshadow Italy.

Unfortunately it's kind of pricey, usually $85, but sometimes on sale for 60 something on Amazon.

I have a book from Eugene Tarle: Napoleon (Russian writer), which goes into the italian campaign to some extent.

I also recommend David Chandler's book because covers all the military aspects of Napoleonic age. E. Tarle's book is, I guess, too subjective in respect of French-Russian relations though for the first campaign in Italy is accurate.
