Just ordered Waterloo from Play.com, it was on TV a couple of months ago and only caught little bits of it and it looks like an amazing film can't wait to watch it

Yeah, I think I might order it off Play.com as well, it looks brilliant!

On a slightly unrelated note, has anybody seen Barry Lyndon? I know it's slightly earlier than Napoleon but it looks good. The only thing that stopped me ordering it was that I wasn't sure if it was a romantic film or a historic/war film.

    You mean the Soviet movie?

Was great art and it´s sadly impossible to produce such battle scenes nowadays

Well I'd certainly hope the movie was at least nearly as long as the book

Arguably would have been THE Napoleonic film had it been made, Stanley Kubrick's Napoleon.

    Script below.

Alas, he never made it. And it's doubtful that he would ever have made it, even if he had lived longer.

Remembers me there's a good movie about Napoléon's early career, by Abel Gance.

Barry Lyndon is very good and it was actually made as an alternative to his proposed movie about Napoleon.it cant really be considered a romance or war movie as it really follows the exploits of the title character through many events and transitions of life.very good movie for those that like the era,but for those that dont it didnt go over very well

@ Smerklo Thanks for the Waterloo clip, I've seen it a few times but I still think the Soviet film of War and Peace beats them all.If you can manage the full 8 hours !

Waterloo and war and peace are both from the great moviemaker sergej bondarchuck.
by the way another great napoleonic movie was AUSTERLITZ a film made by abel gance.
    it's a classic,but it's in french.

another scene eliminated is the attack of the haie sainte.

I wish he would have, not much wrong with the miniseries but it should have been longer and had larger battles, as well as more battles. It should have been an entire TV show like the one about Simon Bolivar or Porfirio Diaz or even like the new Suleiman the Magnificent tv show.

In the script is the frozen pitcher a foreshadowing or a metaphor for Russia?

I have never found the whole movie, is there one with English subtitles for the Russian parts?

I want to see Austerlitz but I also want to see Waterloo in the legendary uncut version from the Soviet Union.

I'm re-watching Sharpe now. Lots of good viewing with the entire set.
I want to see the duelist, might be interesting. Was it by the same person that did Gladiator () and Kingdom of Heaven ()?

Read the book for English class back in the day and I think that it would impossible to make anything near that long. Plus the audience might get bored with all the Peace in the book if it were a movie, as war is the most important part.

The uncut Soviet version, it needs to come to light and I hope Mikhail Gorbachev, who is still alive, should pull some strings for us.
