Will Spain finally get the correct national flag?

Having up until february I´m sure CA will have the occasion this time not to oversimplify the game by taking gross historical liberties.

Today its about Spain´s flag. Much like the early Yellow coated spanish troops were designed for simple minded players not able to tell their troops apart from white coated french and portuguese and, a continuation of asigning to Spain/Castille yellow as ground color.

Well, CA was able to hear the public clamor and changed that aberration to correct white tones for historical accuracy.

Same thing should happen in ETW and now hopefully in NTW with the Spanish national flag.

What we see in ETW is a 1795 modell Naval Jack introduced by Charles III. Like during all of the XVIII century, Spain kept flying the traditional Burgundy Cross (St. Andrew´s cross) over its bases, official buildings and, most importantly for the game, over its troops.

Long after the end of the Napoleonic Wars did the naval jack get taken over by land troops and instituitions.

The old and revered Regiment "Princesa" started the fashion by flying it in 1833, the Regiment "Reina Governadora" got hers in 1835.
The remaining regiments kept using their white flags with the burgundy cross and royal shield up until the end of the Carlist wars (1833-40). In 1841 some of these regiments got their tattered flags changed for the new Red-yellow-red ones and other burgundy cross ones.
In 1842 the militia battalions of Castille and Valencia got their new flags too.
Under the reign of Spanish Elisabeth II the army was reorganitzed and the red-yellow-red flag became standard to all services. By Royal decree of October 13 1843 the Naval Jack became the official new flag for the Army. The feeling behind it was that the red-yellow-red had been the flag the "Liberal Party" had embraced while the Carlist party absolutists kept flying the Burgundy Cross.


So, CA, please, give history a chance and believe some in the maturity of your playerbase. Like we have shown we wanted and could play perfectly well with correctly white coated troops, so can we also live with a correct flag.

The Burgundy Cross flag needs to fly over Spain.

It would appear CA will alway go with what they think is best for gameplay rather than actually listening to what we want.

Hopefully they get the flag right!
And I think historical accuracy when it comes to aesthetics should be taken into account, regardless, gameplay is the only thing the devs should be up to decide...

I would call the change of uniform colors a victory wrested by the gamer community from CA. Remember how the used to hear how it was done to avoid "confusion" and because neighboring France and Portugal were also white coated. Of course this was a terrible and the community spoke up and as a result the uniforms were repainted.

Why should this not hold true for this flag?

I would be so insulted if they thought I needed that sort of help. Can you imagine someone treating you that way to your face "Oh! Just a minute Sir, I don't want you getting lost, so I'll just paint Spain yellow for you, just in case you end up in France. Spain is that big blobby bit just below France just there. see it? Generally, speaking moron's do not buy TW games, because they aren't interested in using their brains when playing a game. So, it irritates the hell out of me that game designers continue to assume that their customers are all stupid.

I agree, I see no reason they cannot have historical accuracy AND game play. Pre-release the Prussian uniforms were to be black, uproar on that caused it to change. Hopefully the same can be done here.

I beleive the colonial flag had a yellow background, not white.

I think the reason they didn't sue it in E:TW was because they needed a flag for the colonies so they used the one least people would recognise and agve the current flag to normal spain so people would recognise it.

As spanish, I support that.
I beg CA to keep the maximum historic accuracy. And I think that most of the gamers want that.
Only two centuries have past and the historic research for NTW is very easy to do.

By the way, it will be very disappointing if CA do not use the real uniforms for all units. We know how exactly were the uniforms in Napoleonic Era, so I pray that CA respect them.

In ETW.

In the 1700s that was the national flag of Burbon Kings of Spain. the one used in ETW was designed in 1785 but not used as the state and War Flag until 1843 by royal decree. Thats what I read on it anyway.

BUT in ETW that is used for New Spain, so that's right yea...

I totally agree they should use that Burgundian like flag !

It'll probably be right this time as they don't need 2 flags however they might still go for the new one causze of the familiarity.

Familiarity! its compromises like this that make me sick. Just use the right flag CA it looks better with the red and white uniforms anyways.
