    Default what is your strategy for...

    any faction? name and describe your battle and campaing map winning tactics here!

    for example:

    as rohan i prefer to have 2 kinds of armies, my field army and my siege army.

    my field army is composed of all the mounted elements of rohan, including 3 or 2 units of horse archers. it has a huge advantage when facing enemy forces in the open, and can be successful against many times its numbers.

    my siege army is composed of all the infantry units of rohan, usually backed up with 5 or 6 units of archers. my axemen, when fighting in the close ranges of a city or castle, can wreak havoc amongst the enemy units with ease.

    for gondor and rohan (every faction that has cavalry generals) just keep charging with generals and keep winning

    I know it sounds weird and obvious but its in fact all I do. I dont understand it but I am fighting 90% only with generals... weird
    (VH/VH)
    Yea I know the name is terrible, but it's not really finished.

    As gondor i send my infantry heads up with theres and follow up with calv into there rear. I use a fairly long single lined front line with only archers to the rear or front depending on enemy encroachment. If there army is more centered or smaller ill try to flank there sides or rears with the rest of my front line infrantry. I also turn my archers off if they are in the rear in 99% of the occassion to prevent friendly fire and would charge them in as infantry if anything.

    Leave it to the modder to perfect the works of the paid developers for no profit at all.

    As Isengard, I have my pikemen either hold the line or march forward in phalanx formation to hem the enemy, while the urak-hai infantry cover any holes. The wargs hit from the sides, while berserkers take care of anyone else. Against Rohan the pikes are devestating -> pretty simple strategy I know

    This is not a scam, trust me!
    Depends on how much you trust me I guess

    Strategy for dwarves: make a line of dwarf axemen (doesn't really matter which ones). Select all. Double-click a mile or so behind the enemy army. Win.

    Strategy for elves: Set your 10 units of archers in a line. Press 'start battle'. Win.

    As eriador i have a bunch of lumbermen fighting the enemy while I swing around back with my general and some bree-land riders. Those orcs don't seem so tough when cavalry are charging into their backs

    Campaign: wage war with everyone

    Gondor - Bring strong cavarly/archer supported infantry.

    Rohan - Never attack a city unless it has a piss poor garrison. Always starve the enemy and focus on hit and run tactics with strong cavarly charges and mounted archer harrasment whenever possible.

    OotMM - Trolls make the main line will archers and pikemen try and fill in the gaps

    Silvan Elves - bring archers...lots of them.

    HE - Bring archers...lots of them.
    Isengard - Strong frontal pikemen formations with infantry to the left and right flank for flanking
    manuvers whenever possible. Besekers go in on the strongest part to hold them off while my pikemen lock into combat.

    Eriador - Lots of Dunedain rangers and greenway guards. Form up the line with guards and hope my rangers kill alot.

    Dwarves - Focus on of course a strong and formidable line of infantry. Bring lots of Xbows to counter skirmirshes and reduce the blood on my soldiers armor.

    Mordor - Use the Nazguls power wisely for flanking positions and swarm the enemy over. Infantry in the center and pikemen on the edges with archers taking up on the sides, try and force them into a closer formation while the archers shoot any forces trying to counter and if need be engage them to save my army. Oh and focus all trolls on the left or right flank to weaken in to be flanked by infantry and swing around to fight the remaining force or attack archers and artillery. Try and keep armys together for support.

    Dale - Bring lots of archers for everything and only use infantry to stall or hold off the enemy, never expect them to kill much besides skirmishers.

    Harad - skirmish whenever possible and avoid a direct conflict unless serpent guards are present. Mumakil only deployed if artillery and javelins are tied up by whatever mean possible.

    Rhun - Close to Isengard as pikemen form the main line and infantry on the sides push and try to flank. Archers in front of course at the beggening and fall back and shoot fire arrows to weaking moral. Cavarly takes out any range units then attacks the infantry. If the infantry line falters then the cavarly will reinforce on a concentrated side.

    With Isengard I use this formation:

    <<C C C C C>>
    W P P I I I I I P P W <"w"Sometimes is lord or berserkers

    W=warg
    L=lord
    P=pikemen
    I=urak infranty
    C=crossbowmen

    With dwarf I Use same formation only then I replace vaul warden with pikeman and replace the "W" with axeman of erebor or Dale mercenaries.

    And with Gondor I use this formation:

    >>> I I I I I I I<<<
    C/L I A A A A I C/L

    A=Arcer
    C=Cavalry

    Sometimes siege behind Archers

    ROHAN FIELD ARMY:
    General (either King or Heir)
    Six other Generals
    7 Units of Spear Militia (fodder, easy to raise anywhere)
    4 Units of Helmingas (nasty missile fire, and capable in melee)
    2 Units of Mounted Archers (used to harass enemy flanks and mop up at the end of the battle)

    This army can take down anything quickly, and quickly recover its numbers. The focus is quickly recovering losses with this army. The Generals all get their men back (with NO LOSS OF EXPERIENCE) and the Spear Militia hold the line well, and are cheap...cheap...and some more cheap. They do well as long as a capable general is on the field. Anything less than five or six stars and you are asking for trouble. As the Archers (both on foot and mounted) don't engage in combat except in dire straights, this army is very easily brought back up to par with any nearby settlement offering reinforcements for the depleted Militia.

    I usually have a small stack follow these armies around with reinforcements in them (usually another Mounted Archer and a Helmingas along with about three Spear Militia, two catapults or ballista (depending on the time) and another General).

    ROHAN SIEGE ARMY:
    General (either King or Heir)
    Six other Generals
    6 Units of Spear Militia (fodder, easy to raise anywhere)
    5 Units of Helmingas (nasty missile fire, and capable in melee)
    2 Units of Catapults or Ballista

    I use this setup (which can quickly be changed to a Field Army if needed because of a stack following it around that has the needed units to swap out) to hit any fortification. I usually don't even bother laying siege and just go straight in with the catapults.

    First, I stand back with my artillery and level the walls that the defenders are standing on...I don't care about the gates. When the walls are brought down, I use the catapults on any units dumb enough to stand nearby while my Helmingas move up to rain death on the defenders. I then send in the generals in staggered charges through the walls, alternating them in and out as the infantry move up. When the infantry are in position, they move through the walls with my general behind them and start pushing the defenders back. I continue to charge in and out with my generals.

    By the time the city square is reached, there are few defenders left standing...and I simply throw flaming catapult shot at them until they are reduced to nearly nothing; then finish them off with the Helmingas. I don't rush the square because of the "unyielding morale" of soldiers there...and arrows are free.

    If a city/fortress has multiple levels, I will wait one round to make several rams that my infantry bring along to breach internal gates; but the plan doesn't change much from that.

    OVER ALL PLAN:
    With Rohan I focus my strength on quickly gaining Talsir and rushing out to prevent Isengard from getting any provinces under their belt...all the while talking nice to Orthanc...even allying with them and starting trade. I actually had an Isengard army help me take a city last game.

    Once I have all the provinces around them and they have nothing, their army is usually much stronger than mine; but they are also usually fighting Eriador...which I like. I immediately send my diplomat to break my alliance with them and then send in one army to destroy every single field army they have near Isengard. At the same time, a second army moves into Dunland to do the same thing.

    Once every single field army is destroyed, I take both Dunland provinces and Fangorn, before converging on Isengard once again with both armies to conquer it and move on.

    I have yet to fail with this plan and these armies with this Kingdom. Once Isengard is removed, it is easy sailing for Rohan because the only available enemy (that really you want to fight) is OotMM. It is easy to repair friendships with with the other good powers after allying to Isengard by giving the High Elves Swanfleet, the Silvan Elves Fangorn, the Dwarves Moria and Eriador takes a little time and bribing is all.

    After that, your ships (that you will have) can take to the seas and harass Harad, your armies can move into Gondor and begin to help fight there (by no later than turn 25-30) while you begin to slowly expand toward Rhun.

    I haven't been able to play much past this point really, because there is a flaw in the game code that makes the factions I fight be completely destroyed by only killing their Leader. It isn't much fun to fight in Mordor when all you are fighting are usual city rebels!

    I'll be moving on to play the Dwarves more now and then note things on it too.
