    Default sea trade routes

i dont know if this was posted before but ....

it seems you can never trade with a far country cause the sea trade route always gets blockaded by pirates or your enemies and i find it quit annoying because of 2 reasons :
1 - the AI never fights the pirates blockading the sea trade routes , you gotta do it yourself
2 - even after you fight the pirates , another pirate ship will come the next turn and blockades it

right now im using prussia and i cant trade with ottomans cause barbary states always block the trade route and its annoying

In mediterranean sea there lot of nations, so often someone will clear routes from berbery pirates (but if he plays after them, they can have ship there at the end of turn again.
Worse is, if port is blocaded/captured (and esp. if it ends that way again and again).
In one campaign I've seen something like: Russian ship in turkish port. Turks send troops there AND return where they started. Then send ship to destroy russian ship and then a) sail away, b) stay there. Then russia send there ship and a) capture port b) destroy damaged ottoman ship and capture purt. (not sure with details) In the end, purt is perpetualy captured, even though it is flushed and attacking fleet destroyed. (PS. maybe it was once in two turns, but I'm sure it repeated a lot)

the ai does fight pirates on trade routes. you'll notice the varying state of damage on pirate fleets when you fight them, they didnt get that by partying all night.

and how did you know they didnt get those damages from partying all night ?

kidding , well i've seen spain deal with it but the pirate ship was very close to spain , the AI rarely attacks the pirate ship when its near the barbary states coast

I sent 1-2 brigs to blockade all of Barbary States' ports. They tried to escape once or twice, but all they ever build are galleys and dhows, so they always fail. Simple solution, will cost you a maximum of maybe 500 gold each turn. (In naval upkeep.)

Try wiping out the Pirates. They have 2 maybe 3 cities in the carribean. Taking them out makes your trading exploits a little easier especially on the trade nodes.
