Default Honestly, I am not being a smart ass

Following Caesar's suggestion, I did do a thread search using the term "recruiting". It yielded 11 pages of threads. I am just not interested in spending my night reading all of these threads to see whether maybe one of them addresses my concerns about the unrealistic recruiting I am experiencing in my 6.1 game. I have no way of knowing what search term is best to lead me to the answer I seek.

Caesar's reaction to my posts makes clear that the questions I raised are frequently raised, I would assume by new members of the SS Community. (I trust that there is a community, and that we new SS gamers are all welcome.) Perhaps his short response is an indication that he is exasperated by this particular question being repeatedly raised. A larger issue becomes obvious.

In all good faith, I would suggest that a better response to the inevitable reraising of the issue should be found than: search the threads. It is a daunting task, and there is no guarantee that the newbie will even use the best search terms to find the answer for himself.

I hope that someplace on this board there is a clear solution for the defect in the module that I inquired regarding. But rather than spend hours (potentially) searching for the solution with no surety of finding it, I as a new member of the community would prefer seeing a sticky addressing such a recuring issue. Failing that, perhaps a moderator who knows exactly which thread answers my questions, and provides a link to it, rather than a dismisive "go find it." I say this not at all in anger, but only on behalf of all the newbies who will come after me, and get on Caesar's last nerve. Nobody needs that.

(BTW, Dane I am grateful for your response, but I regret that you thought I was angry before. I do not get angry. No, before I was being a smart ass. Not now.)

So my suggestion is that a sticky be created, addressing the issue I raised, and every other recurring issue. I do understand why a moderator does not want the community to have to keep responding to the same question over and over and over. IMHO, a sticky is the best way to deal with such questions.

I have downloaded the 6.2 RC4 but not yet installed it. I see that there are a few more patches yet.

My question is this. Do these patches cure the imbalance between forces a player can recruit vs. those generated for bandits? This is really an important question for me, because I really do not want to waste my time playing this module, no matter how many other features attract me, if it allows bandits Chiv.Cav. when I cannot even recruit Feud.Cav.

If the fix exists, please stear me to it, and make a sticky.

Thank you for your attention to this good faith request.

First of all, why do you keep using font thats larger then the forum text? Your words are bigger than the reply button itself.

To shorten this up install 6.0 again using part1&part2 installers and then apply this
Full up to date installer for SS 6.0
    And then the bugfixes here
    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...67#post5782167

That way you will have a game without recruitment limitations as you have now after installing it with recruitment limitation submods enabled.
I see that there are a few more patches yet.
There are no additional patches but submods. Another can of worms best left untouched till you played 6.2 stand-alone.

There is no inbalance. These units can be recruited either by generals with special ancillaries ("Recruitment Staff") by the player or the inabilty to recruit them is due to a bug which bugfix is available in the submod topic of BYGs mod. The link for which is linked as a mandatory read in the installer and the patch is in the first post there.
After selecting the file directory, you can choose from different sub-mods for Stainless Steel 6.1.

Important information about two sub-mods that have a major impact on gameplay:
    Real Recruitment: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=162997
    Byg's Grim Reality III: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=106060

If you put in such a general term, especially one that is used very, very often in regards to this game, then of course you will get back tons of results. The same thing happens when you put in vague and general terms into google: you get vague and general results. When this happens on google what do you do? You put in more specific terms to get back more specific (and hopefully relevant) results. The same applies here. In this day and age I'm sure everyone knows how to use google .

You can also use the "show posts" option to return individual posts back as results instead of whole threads to help find good results (sometimes a useful post will be in a thread with an irrelevant title).

That wouldn't necessarily fix much. The problem with sticky threads is that they (seemingly) hardly get read, despite their prominent position. We have a sticky thread for the current status of SS development, and yet we still get constant questions about when the next version is coming out. The bug with the menus crashing gets posted constantly despite there being an FAQ and a Bug Reports sticky thread. The Vista sticky thread hasn't cut down on the number of Vista related threads being posted much if at all. Just because information is there doesn't mean it'll be read unfortunately.

That particular issue, is simply due to how the engine works. While you can set up advanced scripts, that for the player, and all other AI factions make recruitment realistic, by making available at the historical time, the same is not possible for the bandits. Rebels don't recruit units, but rather are spawned. The units spawned are selected from a list, which cannot change during gameplay.
This means that the choice is either allow all units at all time, or have them spawn only with low-level units even in late-game.

I believe in 6.2, the new campaign AI changes this, by only allowing low-medium units to spawn, but they've managed to make the Rebels (Independant nations) actually behave like a proper faction, recruiting units, and building up their cities.
In my current game with Denmark, I found it much harder to defeat the independant cities in Sweden, than conquering Norway!

Thank you all for the helpfull replies. In answer to Dane's question, I was using the larger and different font because at my age, it makes it easier to read. Again without trying to sound like a smart ass, I was painting figs and pushing them on the table top before most of your parents met. That by the way also explains why understanding how things work in the program and even on boards like this takes me a bit of time.

I will try not to be such a pain, at least for a little while. But I cannot promise.

I do appreciate the help. Like Blanche Dubois, I have always relied on the kindness of strangers.
