Default India's Cry over Arm Sales to Pakistan

India, who launched a nuclear sub, is planing to buy more advance airplanes has a right to complain over selling of drones to Pakistan because of destalibization? I'm having a big laugh over this as a drone is going to destablize the region whie the nuke sub and the new airplanes won't?

Considering these aren't stealth and have been shot down by enemy forces before, I see no reason why India would be scared witless by a non stelth drone.

I think India is causing a stir in this matter not so much because of the sale of a single drone, but because it shows the US is willing to sell some reasonably advanced technology to Pakistan, which India is ofcourse going to be against.

A list has been drawn up and they include helicopters, night vision devices, laser guided ammunition.

Predator drones are particularly worrisome as they constitute top of the line technology.

Sorry bit of an update, drones have started to be made in Pakistan.

    http://geo.tv/8-20-2009/47940.htm

KAMRA: Pak Air Force has formally started the production of pilotless drone planes in collaboration with an Italian company, Geo News reported Thursday.

According to details issued by the PAF, the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex Kamra has commenced producing the pilotless planes Falco UAV in collaboration with Selex Galileo of Italy.

Aeronautical Complex chief Air Marshal Farhat Hussain said pilotless Falco UAV highly important for the country’s defence, adding the production of the planes will greatly add to the professional capabilities of PAF.

Farhat said Pakistan is now a member of the club of countries manufacturing drone planes.

The system will be used mainly for aerial reconnaissance and information gathering, although the PAF will later also induct UAVs equipped with weapon systems to carry out offensive operations.

Then I see India's worry. The Predator Drone is pretty much a "Here's one I made earlier!" purchase for Pakistan, it'll allow the PAF to pretty much skip the R&D phase of giving these things weapons by simply studying the US one they buy. Pakistan will be able to field armed drones fairly quickly.

I think it would be good for Pakistan to do the drone strikes with it's own drones ( using american intel). That way America doesn't have to take the blame for causing civilian casualties, if there are any.

I agree pspguy, and I think that is the PAF's plan. Use the already tried and proven US model they've purchased to gain the knowledge to construct home-built models that aren't linked onto any third party countries.

Yeah man, maybe then Pakistanis will see that America is just trying to help us in our war against the Taliban, and that Americans are friends, not enemies.

India has a right to cry foul. They have a neighbor that runs the daily risk of having rebels advancing in and out within 100km of their capital at will! A neighbor that doesn't even control a quarter of its territory.

Why is the West arming Pakistan to the teeth? India does the whole democracy charade and gets little appreciation for it while Pakistan gets killing machines for a legacy of back-to-back dictatorships.

India is foolish for maintaining ties to the West. What an insult.

really? When was the last incursion? Aside from the fact that they are beaten back by the Pakistani forces, Islamabad would not be taken because the army base is right next to it in Rawalipindi! I could walk from Islamabad to Rawalpindi within half an hour or so. That line of thinking is utterly foolish.

unknown to you and aside from that farce of a man called Zia, the rest of Pakistan's governmental army rule was much better than the civilian rule. Ayub Khan's 5 year plans, Musharraf's plans were much more improving on Pakistan than any civilian government. We have a ruler who is using a dead woman's name and has been known for being corrupt and is mentally unstable. I would perfer an Army rule over that of a civilian ruler. At least the political party family partnerships which rob the country like Nawaz or Bhutto do twice and more damage than any dictators ever have done.

Pakistan is doing what it needs to fight the Taliban a fight which I as a pakistani wholeheartedly support and whatever weapons and arms they need should be given without any haste.

If your a champion of India so much and care about destablizing the region, look no further than the arms race played by India when they have insurgents inside their borders as well. If India gives up the arms race, Pakistan will soon follow.

Uhm, have you checked where Islamabad lies? The trouble is that the only chance for an outsider to stabilize Pakistan is to arm the Pakistan central government to the teeth so they can enact control on all those worrisome territory.

Yeah, it wouldn't help the Pakistani government though because they would fester opposition to them.

We have the money to buy weapons, and we don't threaten the west, so they sell them to us. Simple. And we only control a quarter of our territory? Wanna provide a source?

but who then is going to call them for credit card setups and tech help?

But in all honesty, while I can see how this might worry India, I think they're making mountains out of mole hills.
