    Default XC needs you!

XC is looking for beta testers and description writers.

If you want to help us developing new, cleaner and better versions just reply here!

Testers will be expected to have general knowledge of the workings of RTW (actual modding knowledge is a bonus). Testers should be concerned primarily with crashes, but also other issues with either the campaigns (e.g. region or city errors) or battles (e.g. texture or model errors). As a final note, testers should also be aware of faction and unit balance.

Description writers should be proficient in English and have a good knowledge of formal grammar and writing. Knowledge of the Classical era is a bonus.

Anyone who helps will be given full credit for their work.

We are also looking for modelers/skinners to help us speed up the completion of our rosters as well as working on some experimental features.
If you want to work with the cutting edge of RTW modding this is the place for you!

    All applicants will be considered.

The duties of a dedicated tester are to test either certain aspects of the game (custom battles, a certain faction), or test the game in general by searching for bugs.

If you want to help in some other fashion, apply here and let us know how you want to help.

Also, we're in shortage of modelers and skinners, if you've got some skills in that area you're more than welcome.

    Lol, I could do spell-checking, perhaps grammar(mine isn't great), and maybe a
few new descriptions, like in the export_units or buildings.

I know I'm able to, at least, because the text files for DTW
I redid are going into v1.07, the new one.

I'm decent at finding bugs too, so I could beta-test,
    if necessary.

About finding bugs, what does this entail?
    These things I can find:
    Missing unit cards/card info
CTD's on an AI factions turn
    Unit texture glitches
Building errors(i.e. clicking on a building in the building
    browser, and getting a CTD)
Trait CTDs(I might need instruction with this one, though.)
    AI Faction progression
    and more...

These bugs... I'm not good with:
Script errors(lol, I redefine "incompetent" when it comes to
    scripting.)

So, I can help with everything(I think) besides scripting,
    modeling, and skinning.

Bug finding is mostly what we're looking for right now, but faction balance is good too (keeping in mind that some factions should do better than others).

From your list, everything except the unit cards (most of which I know of, but have to fix) and script errors (which we shouldn't have, being light on the scripting).

I think I'll have time to beta test.
I would help with skinning but I doubt that I would have the time since I have to make all of Nile: Total War's units. I might be able to do one or two though and then get them in-game (I can do basic codding, like EDU, DMB ect).

Thank you, guys. Just remember that we are expecting testers to be rigorously testing the game. That doesn't mean you can't help even if you don't, but it may be better to not sign up as a dedicated tester.

Well, I probably won't be able to be a dedicated tester,
    because I'm starting college soon.

Good thing about the scripts, though.

If you give me a new beta version of XC,
I could test it on weekends, after college starts.

Faction balance is also something I can do.
By faction balance, though, you mean, for example,
the Macedonian/Greek war varying in terms of victors,
    going either way, right?

For now, though, I'm a bit limited in terms of computer
access, but I'll let you guys know when I'm ready.

EDIT: Alright, I have a week left to test before college starts,
and I have a good computer again, so let me know
    when I can help.

I can't help anymore since my mod's situations has changed. The mod leader resigned and I've taken his place so I don't have much time left after I finnish modding.

    Ok, first open assignment.

Write descriptions for the following units:

    {greek_thessalian_cavalry} Thessalian Cavalry

    {greek_agrianian_infantry} Agrianian Infantry

    {libyphoenician_pikemen} Liby-Phoenician Pikemen

    {libyphoenician_heavy_pikemen} Liby-Phoenician Heavy Pikemen

    {greek_levy_hoplites} Levy Hoplites

    {barb_noble_archers_scythian} Dismounted Noble Archers

    {east_armoured_archer} Heavy Archers

    {indian_guild_warriors} Guild Warriors

    {bosphoran_archer} Bosphoran Archers

    {roman_antesignani} Ante-Signani

    {macedonian_heavy_phalanx} Heavy Phalangites

    {east_persian_heavy_cavalry} Heavy Persian Cavalry

    {numidian_noble_cavalry} Numidian Nobles

    {carthaginian_libyphoenician_assault_infantry} Liby-Phoenician Assault Infantry

    {iberian_assault_infantry} Iberian Assault Infantry

    {machimoi_thureophoroi} Machimoi Thureophoroi

    {greek_iphicratean} Iphicratean Hoplites

    {greek_heavy_iphicratean} Heavy Iphicratean Hoplites

Do not plagiarize. If we find out you have plagiarized we will blacklist you as well as taking other appropriate measures. If you draw on other mods for inspiration, please get permission or else find a second source as well. If you have any questions about any of the units, post them here or PM one of the team.

We may edit your submission for any reason, and we may also incorporate submissions from separate authors for the same unit.

    Default Re: XC needs you!

Hey, CV, do Ante-Signani count as light or medium infantry?
If they are medium, I might have a decent description already.

Also, would the Macedonian Heavy Phalangites be considered
an answer to Roman tactics? If so, I have another description
    partially done.

Finally, are any of these units Post-Marian?

Besides these, I'll get to the other units shortly.

P.S. Are we allowed to paraphrase from other mods text?
I think that wouldn't be an issue, as long as it's not exact words,
and we credit them for the original idea. Right?

EDIT: For those of you who want to help, but don't know where the text
files are, go to My computer(or whatever it's called on your PC), then click
on the C:\ drive, go to Program files, then open The Creative Assembly folder,
open your RTW folder, open the "xc" folder, open Data, open "text," and then open
    export_units.
Now, search for the unit you wish to add text for.

    Good luck.

Hey i've done done some preliminary research on the Iphicratean Hoplites and there seems to be a fair amount of controversy on whether they were peltasts reorganized or actual hoplites. Whats the best way to state this in a unit description?

  18. #18

    Default Re: XC needs you!

Well, Pingpong, I would take a look at the description at Europa Barbarorum's site, as they are usually
right on-target. I'll get you the link:
    http://www.europabarbarorum.com/fact...non_units.html

However, since you'll need other sources, I've got some here.

    http://www.allempires.com/article/in...crates_reforms
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iphicrates

If there's more, I'll look later, as I am working on the new descriptions as well.
Thank you for doing the Iphicratean hoplites, that's 2 less for me.

I intended to do all of the new units, so thanks. It's a bit daunting, after all.

Also, about the "peltast or hoplite" stuff, according to Diodorus Siculus, Bibliotheca Historica, XV.44,
and in the Wiki page, they might have been called peltasts, due to their using a pelte shield, but were
more like hoplites or phalangites, because they used long spears, and a sword, instead of javelins.

I would include in the description that they could have been reorganized peltasts, or just re-equipped hoplites.

    I could be wrong, though.

Thanks for the links (i'd found some already). Iphicrates does seem to be quite the innovator. Hopefully the unit desc. can be done in the next day or so...

    Default Re: XC needs you!

Seriously? How much time did you plan to spend on those descriptions?

I already did more than half.

Sure, my descriptions might be a little shorter than some, or not, but they do the job.

Anyway, how much time do you usually have as free?

I might be biased, but I'm in college, so I have a decent amount, but...
