Re: working memory
It usually says on the label of the RAM sticks.
Otherwise, if you bought your PC pre-built, it will say on the manufacturer's website.
You can also figure it out by the number of pins. DDR has 184 pins, while DDR2 have 240 pins. You can see that difference in this picture. Notice the larger pin size on the DDR (top), and the differences in the notch location at the middle.

Re: working memory
Download CPU-Z, go to the Mainboard section, and google the model of motherboard you have. From there, look at the specs, and it should tell you what kind of memory it supports. Post the model and manufacturer here if you get lost.
Anyways, unless you're PC is really old, it'll probably support DDR2.

Re: working memory
Well I found this:
http://www0.dealtime.co.uk/xPF-Gigab...te-GA-K8VM800M
Can't find anything that's exactly the model you have though. And going by that, it looks like it supports SDRAM, and speeds of 266mhz, 333mhz, and 400mhz.

Re: working memory
I found the exact model of his motherboard. According to Crucial, your motherboard uses DDR RAM, specifically PC2700 and PC3200 RAM (333mhz and 400mhz)...but only a maximum of 2GB total...meaning 1GB in each memory slot. Also, it only supports Nonbuffered, non-ECC RAM...so make sure that the RAM you end up purchasing meets these requirements as well.
