Who has played Lord of the Rings Total War?

Who has played Lord of the Rings Total War and how do you think it compares to the Third Age Total War? Also what features do you think

For LOTRs Total War I liked how the Elite Noldor army could return later in the campaign, but some of the Orc skins looked like rocks to me, though they were very well done, but Im guessing the limitations of the Graphics . I also liked how the Galadhrim were split from the wood elves.

I think you mean how the noldor were split from the woodelves. o.0 Galadhrim=woodelves or at the very least closely related to the woodelves.

But it was a really good mod, the engine was sadly limited though, and it felt like the campaign map was empty at places.

I played LOTR:TW, but I like more TA:TW. LOTR:TW was a great mod, but sometimes I felt the game was empty, and I like the units here more

I played LOTR:TW, but after a while I dropped it because diplomacy drove me crazy. I was playing as Galadhrim and this faction started with a logical alliance with Noldor (Elrond) and Silvan Elves (Thranduil). After some turns of preparation, I built up an army who conquered Moria. Great, isn't it?
Not at all. Nearly later in the game a Noldor army spawned near Moria and besieged it. My army was far in the east and through diplomacy there wasn't any way to make peace, until the Noldor took Moria, killing my general there.
Just after this loss I was able to seize a truce, but I never regained their alliance.
Those are the things I hate. We're allies. I've just beaten a common, dangerous enemy close to respective territories. This is the way you repay me?
I read the discussions about diplomacy fot TATW and I've the sensation it will be more equilibrated.

both mods were similar but i like tatw most, not only cos of graphics but the starting date is better than just fighting the last months of LOTR

Nope. Looked it up a few times, but didn't feel like dropping the money for Alexander, especially after I saw Third Age in development.

There was one major drawback in LOTR-TW : I found it hard as good factions .. I mean , as gondor , arhcers and swordsmen (2-handed) costed 2 turns to recruit , while mordor had 0-turn recruitment . + Your front cities were always empty because of you creating too much soldiers .. This resuled in you fighting 2 stacks every turn , and just autoresolving 1 was enough for your whole campaign to be lost .. And when you finally got Minas Morghul (wich had a garisson script ofcourse) , it had 400 population , and the population didn't grow -_-"

But the scripting and all was amazing , and the special features like Sauron/fellbeast are too .

that was exactly what I liked in that mod.. you know fighting as Gondor gave you the feel of a real struggle between Evil and Good when each battle could be decisive, not just trampling Orcs under your general steed's hooves, it was indeed much harder.

but i don't really like the Fellbeast thing-it was too buggy;and the alliances were awful-when I FINALLY defeated Mordor and marched to help Rohan these bastards attacked me!! after that I was disappointed in LOTR TW,though soon after I've foung TATW

Well , some people like it hard , some people less But the point was , you know when you're playing as gondor at VH/VH in TATW , and you keep getting stacks on Osgiliath , and when you defeat them , 2 new ones appear ? Well , the effect is doubled in LOTR-TW

But i liked the Minas-Tirith/Helm's Deep aid , i liked the army of the dead , i liked the Eriador script for the Fellowship , i liked the OMGWTF faction , ... It's still the best LOTR mod for RTW for me

Don't really know what is so nice about defeating a stack after stack of enemy armies? 5-6 times is ok, but then it gets too repetitive. Lore-wise... it took only one major battle (Pelennor Fields) for allied armies to resume initiative. They did not get to fight Mordor 10-20 times at the walls of Minas Tirith. A victory in battle should mean something - it should set enemy's plans back for 5-6 turns and give a victor a chance to push his advantage and time to capture a city or two.

Yep. And Fellowship of the Ring, and Palantirs and Mirror of Galadriel. Simply amazing.
But diplomacy ruined almost every campaing, even with force_diplomacy.

And trolls were not overpowered And some LOTR TW heroic elven victories like 4 elven generals slaughtering 4000 orcs in melee are impossible in TATW. And Return of Noldor is nice feature.
Btw, I have both mods on my hdd and play LOTR TW sometimes. Nice mod.

LOTRTW was great for its time. I think that the amount of detail put into the factions in terms of units and military variety is far better than TATW. A lot of the TATW factions are really, really dull and bland when it comes to armies. ie. Mordor, Isengard. Also liked some of the aspects of TATW such as the permanent villages in Fangorn and at Osgiliath which made defending them a lot harder. I think if the TATW team took more inspiration from LOTRTW, the game could be improved many times over.

I have played it. That was great mod. I loved sauron in that mod animation was done very well just like in the movie.

Nah , it's possible that some mods don't work very well on a bay .. with all the sand and stuff
