Well, the title says it. I want a dead to be the head of the family tree, with the faction leader as the son etc.
Well, the title says it. I want a dead to be the head of the family tree, with the faction leader as the son etc.
I know how to make dead characters, but I want to have a dead ex faction leader (it was possible in Rome):
character_record Arathorn, male, age 90, dead, never_a_leader
character_record Gilraen, female, age 90, dead, never_a_leader
character_record Calaerwen, female, age 56, alive, never_a_leader
character_record Lothien, female, age 15, alive, never_a_leader
relative Arathorn, Gilraen, Ecthelion, end
relative Ecthelion, Calaerwen, Denethor, Mistion, Lothien, end
Ecthelion is the faction leader.
This doesn't work (the campaign starts, but the dead father doesn't show up in the family tree.
[EDIT] I just realized it is the red section you need to make two tabs between gilraen and Ecthelion, cos otherwise they show up as his brother and sister, and then they won't show up at all, so do the tabs thing and check if you have all the tabs right, and the tabs ting between Calearwen and Denethor, but it is the first one between gilraen an ectthelion that causes him not to show up. if you used tabs, could you say that, in advance, cos that would spare me a lot of writing, can't really see it in the post.. and I think gigantus is right about the number with a comma after dead, but I don't recall it being necceasary, ask him, but try mine first, cos that's causing it Im pretty sure.
SO REMEMBER: ALWAYS USE TABS, NO SPACES AND USE THEM AFTER EVERY COMMA(,), AND ALWAYS BETWEEN MOTHER AND FIRST CHILD TWO TABS!!!
that's because, you need , more space between parents and children, than you do between children and children, or father and mother.
it should look like this:
character_record Arathorn, male, age 90, dead, never_a_leader
character_record Gilraen, female, age 90, dead, never_a_leader
character_record Calaerwen, female, age 56, alive, never_a_leader
character_record Lothien, female, age 15, alive, never_a_leader
relative Arathorn, Gilraen, Ecthelion, end
relative Ecthelion, Calaerwen, Denethor, Mistion, Lothien, end
you can't really see it in the post though, but you can in the attachment, txt file, between relative and Arathorn there should be a [tab] no space, but a tab, in the post it looks like a space, but it is a [tab]. Also between Arathorn and Gilraen there should be one tab and between Gilraen and Ecthelion there should be !two! tabs, between mother and first child always two tabs! so the same for the line under. and also between the last name and end also one tab, never use spaces! in notepad it might look like a space or a really long tab, but don't worry, if you pressed tab, no spacebar, and it is the right amount of tabs, you should be fine. also for the character record, every space should be a tab, except the one between age and # tha should be a space.
SO REMEMBER: ALWAYS USE TABS, NO SPACES AND USE THEM AFTER EVERY COMMA(,), AND ALWAYS BETWEEN MOTHER AND FIRST CHILD TWO TABS!!!
^this^ applies only to the character record and to the relative lines.
also a nice one, you could like make a head of the familitree and give him 3 kids, make the four of them dead and have kids and you will have three familtrees, BTW max number of kids is 4, can't be changed.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
take a look at this tutorial, well i't's not a real turotial, but you could get some ideas and info of it. be sure to tak e a look at what the guy did there, will help you i think
also +rep me if it helped you and ask more if you wanna know some other things about the spaces and tabs of other parts of the descr_strat file.
also a hint it's no good using two names twice in the descr_strat, got a lot of CTD through that, you could make it Arathorn1 and ARathorn 2 and make them display both as Arathorn in game by editing the names txt and some other name files i believe.
Hope this helped
yes, dead father can't show up in the family tree, because he had no brother or sister . it cant be unilinear.
The devil is in the detail:
You need to add a number for how long the character is already dead. See the screenshot:character William, named character, male, leader, age 50, x 125, y 222
character_record Robert, male, age 84, dead, 45, never_a_leader
character_record Herleva, female, age 82, dead, 30, never_a_leader
relative Robert, Herleva, William, end
gigantus is that number really necessary, cos if you don't it just says he dead in the first year right, I could be wrong though, haven't done any descr_strat things in along time, but I know that you're right about the number, that it can be used, but I'm not sure ifit's necessary, but it does add a bit more historical reality to your family, if they didn't die all in the same year.
anyway your probably right, as always.
It still doesn't work:
character Ecthelion, named character, male, leader, age 58, x 239, y 128
character_record Arathorn, male, age 90, dead, 40, never_a_leader
character_record Gilraen, female, age 90, dead, 35, never_a_leader
character_record Calaerwen, female, age 56, alive, never_a_leader
character_record Lothien, female, age 15, alive, never_a_leader
relative Arathorn, Gilraen, Ecthelion, end
relative Ecthelion, Calaerwen, Denethor, Mistion, Lothien, end
I used tabs, just like you said...Arrgh, I know why I keep on making traits ancs and scripts...

Instead of never_a_leader, you could perhaps say former_leader?
character_record Arathorn, male, age 90, dead, 40, never_a_leader = died when Ecthelion was 18, his age then 72 = was 54 when he was born
character_record Gilraen, female, age 90, dead, 35, never_a_leader = died when Ecthelion was 23, her age then 67 = 44 at his birth, beyond childbearing age ?
character Ecthelion, named character, male, leader, age 58
