Roman Archers?

The Romans doesn't seem to have any archers, this forces me to use slingers that i only can buy in africa. Why aren't there any archers?

As far as I know you're able to recruit funditores (slingers) in Rome..

And you can build roman archers a little later on, once you have upgraded your practise range and reached the right game time - they tended to use javalins mostly a ranged weapons. Look for Cretan Archers you can hire as mercenries in greek lands, i try to get a couple of those early on to add to the dimension of my battle strategy.
