    Default Mod Idea - History of Middle Earth

    I'm not a modder, and have no time to learn, so if this isnt doable, then by all means yell...
    But, I think it would be really neat to see a 'History of Middle Earth' mod that perhaps suspends time and allows for any and all note worthy heroes, units, factions, etc to be displayed.

    The mod team would need to filter what should be/shouldnt be included but I'd think heroes such as Isildur, Gil-Galad, Sauron himself, the Witch King (in Angmar), etc etc....Dragons, Balrogs, etc could all be included without the limitations of lore. Granted its a departure but it would allow for a TON of factions (closer to ME2 anyway), would add infinite replayability, and would certainly make battle more interesting.

    The battle recreations would all be possible. The Last Alliance, Battle of Five Armies, etc.
    Just a thought.

    well you could use family trees by adopting the lineage based on chronological order.
    So, instead of restricting TA:TW to just the third age, instead we start it say at the beginning of the first age for the family tree.
    Just call me BENTLE, everyone else does...

    Hmm, it would certainly be a LOT of work. I personally would like to see a First Age mod, it's really the only mod that could include the full force of Morgoth in realism. But I suppose that's a long way off.

    First the Second Age mod has to be complete (no, not the submod in here, but any complete, total conversion to that age), then, as the Second, Third and Forth age is done, we'll do the First Age (which is an incredible amount of work!)

    I'm with you, would give anything to be able to command Fingolfin in the field .

    1st age would be a little tough given the limited evil factions. Depending on when in the 1st age, you might only have Morgoth as evil and a bunch of elven factions. Late 1st age (towards the 5th battle) you could have Easterlings start right on Ered Lindon with one or two areas and a huge army. There would be opportunity for good human factions at that point too.

    To make it playable and balanced, I'd say that there would have to be some revision and some lore compromise.

    Would be awesome to have balrogs, werewolves, dragons, etc though.

    I don't think so, I'm pretty sure it was twice the size of a man, although someone may be a tad bigger (this is the one at Moria...)

    I'd say it could be either, in game, as its not really clear just how tall the Balrog is. It can leap over a gap that trolls needed planks to get across, but then again trolls aren't particularly agile. It's really only described as "great" in FotR. A few quotes (don't you hate it when I do this?)

    "What it was could not be seen; it was like a great shadow, in the middle of which was a dark form, of man-shape maybe, yet greater...It came to the edge of the fire and the light faded as if a cloud had bent over it. Then with a rush it leaped across the fissure. The flames roared up to greet it, and wreathed about it; and a black smoke swirled in the air. Its streaming mane kindled, and blazed behind it."

    "His enemy halted again, facing him, and the shadow about it reached out like two vast wings...It stepped forward slowly on to the bridge, and suddenly it drew itself up to a great height, and its wings were spread from wall to wall..."

    It almost sounds like it can make itself larger at need, so if someone were to make a model (I BEG YOU!), there is some leeway as far as size goes.

    So guys, sorry to make you close this great discussion, but, since the release of TATW, my team and I have begun the development of a mod based on TATW, but not just on tatw, because we made a lot of new features and changes in gameplay.
    This mod is only about the First Age of Arda, with all the factions and units you can guess.

    We are already working on units, and all I can tell you for the moment is that in 1 month max, you will have news of our work, you can be sure of it.
