My stance is that...why would we go out of our way to go on killing more folk and bringing our pain to them?

Also, in the event of finding an alien civilization, either through space discovery or by them finding us, that we will take advantage of them immediately?

IDGI, honestly. I think the dependence on an outside source of humanity's peace and union shows a cynical distrust in human nature. Yeah, we're capable of great amounts of brutality, but we're capable of equally great amounts of altruism.

Doesn't mean their weapons would be as advanced, though. Not all tech is parallel; it depends on the development. As a much smaller-level example, look at the Aztecs: fairly advanced architectural, cultural, civil, linguistic, and agricultural development, but relatively tech shite weapons because of the resources.

What period in human history represents the closest to an alien invasion? The invasion of the Aztec Empire by white Spaniards. They will play proxy games in various regions, being kind to some while cruel to others. They will toy with us and eventually annihilate us - just like the white man did to the natives of America. So when you think about it the peopel who will be most ed over in the case of an alien invasion is the most hi-tech parts of humanity - that being Europe, North America and Japan.

Good point, but a simple metaphor for "aliens come, weaker tribes join them" wont work in a more modernized world. The "aztecs" in the humans vs aliens scenario would be more than just one nation/group, Im sure there would be a major 1st world alliance throughout all the continents, and some smaller/less cooperative nations would still fight, while some other countries would no doubt have problems with dissension. In our day and age, I just think it'd be an entirely different scenario.

I dont know, the analogy is quite sound, say the aliens can communicate with us, and they go to the middle east and promise them sovereing countries and favors on exchange for manpower against the western powers. Or Africa. Im pretty sure they could ally with more than one country.

Well I'm not saying it's impossible, just seems unlikely. Depends on the situation. Have the aliens studied us? Do they know how our nations work? Also, it depends on the aliens intent. If it's complete extermination they want, and since they'd probably be fairly hi-tech beings by our standards, they probably wouldnt start grabbing allies, even if they planned on just betraying them later.

Well let's suppose Alien are as vulnerable to weaponry as we are, yeah maybe they have super designs concerning space travel but they're not that much advanced in the armaments department.
In this case alliances would play a very important role and most nuke armed countries would make alliances against the invaders.

The southwest Asian countries will fall to bribes and the promise of reclaiming Jerusalem and expelling the American soldiers. South American nations are weak from a military standpoint and the location is prime for putting pressure on the United States.
