Recovering an Eagle

I lost an Eagle to those damned Macedonians. I retook the city where it was supposed to be, but how do I know that I recovered the Eagle? In fairness, the poor old Legion fought off 2 full Phalanx stacks, then finally lost to the third but even then nearly won. Sigh, I so hate phalanxes, they are a challenge, but no rest until I destroy Macedon now, payback for breaking our alliance! (even if I would have broken it too

)

If it is something to do with not being able to recruit the legion that lost it, that may explain things as I don't recall which legion it was and thus where it was recruited.

phalanxs are easy if you know how. you need to use thoses poor roman horses. attack with your legionaries right at them and flank them with your horses

I wasn't asking how to fight Macedonians, I was asking how you know your legion Eagle is recovered. You get a message saying it's been lost, would be nice to get another saying you've recovered it. I have taken the city it was taken to (forget the name, one next to Dyrrchium) so I assume I've recovered it now.

Never mind.

Does it not? I seem to remember something about recovering an Eagle once upon a time. I wind up spending too much time playing in the republican era these days...

Good question. But i have not an answer, but its very interesting to know, that you can campture an eagle as a non-rome-fraction (with a message).

But for your question, i think to Mod-leaders has to answer.

You cant , I think it more of a sign telling you to disband or dont recruit the legion anymore because they lost theyre eagle , Hence they are disgraced and shouldnt be in active service

not true - Legio XII Fulminata lost its Eagle during the Jewish Revolt of 66-70 AD, and it was kept in service.

I know i have played a mod (not sure if it was this one) as the gauls and one of my generals had a trait for taking Eagles, but im not sure about the traits or messages for losing an eagle, need to ask someone like TONE or DVK901, they might know if the Traits or ancillaries have anything like that.

I'm fairly sure "The First Triumvirate" had a script whereby you could recover your lost Eagle. I don't know quite how well-known that mod is, (I suspect it might have been a sub-mod too, possibly of RTR?) it's probably defunct by now anyway, though it was rather enjoyable!

TFT is available from the FRRE team on these very boards. Well worth checking out along with the other two more recent mods on offer.

Aha, that's the one. Argh, now I'm really tempted to go back and try some of them, especially like the look of what looks like a standalone Julius Caesar campaign. But I'm spending far too much time on RS as it is. The pain of being spoilt for choice

I think it was a sub mod of SPQR that i came accross it ?

In answer to your orriginal question, I have made enquiries and suggestions, with the team, and I am trying to get some traits put into RSII to give good and bad effects for those involved with capturing and losing an Eagle,

I have often seen 'eagle taker' as a trait but I have had the same problem - often I have captured/lost an eagle but never regained one... that I know of. I think that for RS 2 this should be a new feature - that you can recapture an eagle

I doubt it will be in for the first release. There is already a trait in the game for retaking an eagle, and I have other more pressing trait work before messing with those.
