    Default Tables for units

I'm a bit puzzled about the different permission mechanisms for units. Could somebody tell me which tables apply to campaign, which to MP, and which to both?

The tables I've identified so far are:

    - buildings_units_allowed (no-brainer: campaign-only)
    - units_to_exclusive_faction_permissions
    - units_to_gov_types_permissions
    - units_to_groupings_military_permissions

No thing is everything. Every thing is nothing.

i can tell you 100% that both units_to_exclusive_faction_permission and units_to_groupings_military_permissions apply to both, and that units_to_gov_types applies to campaign. That only leaves the question if / how gov type is handled in custom battle.

Thanks. The military groupings are defined in the faction list as I found... I thought they'd be more useful. Well I'll just implement my own mechanisms

For custom battles I guess using units_to_exclusive_faction is the better choice anyways.

grouping and exclusive faction work together. You can put the units into groups so all units of the group get them. You can refine this with the exclusive table by adding out of group units to the faction, or denying acces to a in-group-unit to the faction. The exclusive faction permission works as a refinement of the group structure. I had a list of military groupings somewhere if you are interested.

No need, I removed them for now. It just adds another layer of things to remember so I'd rather just have everything in one place and only use exclusive factions.

As lazyKnight has mentioned the weakest link in the AOR is the region definitions, the 3 table as mention imho can do a pretty decent patch work to define aor's

on this front pple im pretty sure there must be a setting (unkown column) that makes a units recruitable by all nations default - true/false

some units need to be turned on so they can be recruited ie line inf british

others units every1 gets by default so need to be turned off -ie native auxilaries , certain admiral flag ships

this would im sure be in the units tables where multi player permissions are,

its also interesting to get the best campaign AOR the multiplayer roster will be nuts as every1 will be able in multi to recruit any available colonial troop from any region unless that troops is denied early or late permission. I suspect thats why Vannilla Campaign AOR is much worse than it could be because CA did a rather rushed fix job to make multiplayer recruitment look respectable.

just a few cent of my limited wisdom on the topic.
