    Default recommended settings?

    would just like to start by saying that this mod is great ! ....

    though may sound like a n00b question .... what would be the recommended difficulty levels for this mod?

    in rtw and mods , setting the battle difficulty anything above medium gives the AI troops stat + morale bonus (which is ok but can be annoying unless you really want a hardcore game) ... i have read that this is the same for the RR/RC mod is installed ?

    lastly.. anyone know how the campaign levels affect this mod?

    Mmm well if you're playing 6.0-6.1, go VH/VH if you have TW experience. Otherwise, go H/H. The battle AI was lacking IMO, so even H/VH is decent. Any difficulties less than those are just a cakewalk. You can just mass peasants really, as long as you don't AutoCalc every fight.

    On 6.2, it's a bit more difficult. So i'd recommend H/VH or VH/VH. It all depends on your skill level though.
    The AI gets pretty decent morale bonuses, but their battle logic is basically Napoleonic tactics. Move forward, don't have any desire for self preservation, and kill anything in front of you, and most of all, do not expect the unexpected. That being said, one Bodyguard unit could pretty much lay waste to entire armies.

    SS is an excellent mod, but I am now playing Darth Ages mod for the XBAI and XCAI.

    I also plan to give Sword and Spear a shot too, it looks promising.

    thanks for the info , i'm playing on 6.1 , might try a game on h/vh

    i don't mind AI bonus with money etc , and i know that they seem to just run into your armies head first lol.. just so long as it does not get to the stage where a group of pesants are holding back my heavy cav ..

    On what difficulty level did you play your vanilla campaigns? And which version (6.0, 6.1, 6.2,submods?) are you using?

    Nvm... ^^

    If you played RTW with total realism or any other mods then the larger map and more factions etc will seem familiar. The main differences to me are a bit less unit variety in the early part of the game but when gun power weapons and professional armies arise that gets interesting again and the battle AI can actually flank with its cavalry sometimes now. It does not seem to do it 100% of the time and the more cavalry heavy the army is and where you put your own cavalry, archers, and general play a bit of a role but... if you neglect to keep track of where the enemy cavalry is you will find it circled your units and charged the rear somewhere and half decimated a unit.

    So just due to that the battles can be more interesting, especially if you are weak in cavalry yourself or facing an opponent with multiple heavy cav units. Just fought a battle where France had 5 Feudal Knights, 2 mounted sergeants, 2 family members, and several dismounted knights... no possible way I can keep track of that many enemy cav and my cav were severely outnumbered. Cavalry also with mass can actually fight its way thru a spearline too even when not charge now so... better plan your formations more carefully than RTW where even on VH you could get away with single line and archers behind, cav on wings. I find narrow front vs your own amount of forces with archers in middle and a few of your best units in the 2nd line or waiting to engage likley cav flank charge with counter charge make things easier.

    infantry _
    archer >
    cav ~
    general o
    horse archer/missile cav }

    _ _ _ _
    } _ >_ }
    ~ _ o _ ~
    _

    something like that or play with it... the missile cav throw only once or twice before retreat so the 2nd line spears can counter charge enemy cav coming to get the missile cav while the missile cav then hits those guys flanks when they caught by counter charging infantry. the infantry flanking the general move up to protect missile cav flanks and 1 spear stay behind general until all the enemy cav engages... then general flank and hit the most vulnerable enemy or the unit causing most damage. since battles last longer than in RTW you can afford to wait. leaving an extra spear behind general isn't always needed but if enemy have much stronger/more cav then its a good idea as the general is usually your strongest unit and you don't want them absorbing a charge. the spears there to move up and shield general or let the general disengage with few losses. extra 5 slots in a full flag army can usually got towards best melee unit you can get or some artillery.

    Here are two basic armies by me. And there is another one on the Moors (They have an easily understood description of normal battle strategy).
