Really? Who told you this? I am telling you from second hand experience! My entire family is the source! I am talking about post-Stalin era my friend, the Stalinist times were different! Massive oppression? The only thing people were ever oppressed about was publication against the Soviet state, and that is not oppression! If Eastern European nations were so hurt under the Communist regime, they should have thought about invading Russia in the first place and about supplying Hitler to kill millions of Russians!

Finland and Romania had just cause, the former was finally broken at the end of the Winter War (though not before giving the Soviets one hell of a bloody nose) and the latter lost Bessarabia to the Soviets. Slovakia & Croatia were German puppets, d'you think their people really had a choice in the matter? And Hungary was already a German ally.

Bulgaria though, had done nothing to the USSR. Yet they were still brought to their knees anyway.

Souds funny, since hunger was not only in Ukraine but everywhere in USSR, and was not intentional, but consequence of certain economic mistakes done by Soviet government after revolution.
