Medieval 2:Total war encountered an unspecified error and will now exit

I get this error after starting broken crescent than my screen goes black and I see horsemen but that's it I get this error what should I do to resolve it? plz help me

Be more specific. What version of the game do you have (Gold Edition?), what operating system?

I have the same problem, with BC 2.0 using vista. I installed it, ran it and while loading, it says the above message.

Do you know if I need patch 1.2 or something, before 1.3?

Usually, when you install Kingdoms on Medieval (like me, I don't have Gold E.), it patches the game to 1.2 and then to 1.3, so I suppose you must first install 1.2 over Medieval, before you patch it to 1.3. It seems to be safer solution.
