    Default Changing Cavalry sabres

The cavalry sabres in ETW are nearly all inappropriate. Only light cavalry (Hussars, Chasseurs a cheval, lancers, light dragoons) should be using curved sabres. All cuirassier, horse, provisional, and dragoon cavalry should have the same straight swords used now only by the general's bodyguard cavalry.

I would like to rectify this oversight, but I could use some advice to get started. I assume that the shape of the sword is based in the wire framing. Does anyone know this to be true?

    Thank you,

It's quite easy to change, actually:
In db/unit_stats_land_tables find the row for the unit you want to edit (for example, euro_regiment_of_horse). Then go to the Warscape Equipment Theme IDRef column and replace x_euro_cavalry_sabre with x_euro_cavalry_sword. Run ETW, and, voilą! Regiment of Horse with straight bladed swords.

Thank you very much, Tiyafeh!!! That sounds almost too easy! This sabre thing has been irritating me since I started playing ETW. I hope to make a small mod for people who feel as I do about this. Huzzah!

This solution worked for 'horse' and provisional cavalry. Sadly, there is no 'cavalry_musket_sword' weapon combination, so dragoons and other cavalry that shoot firearms are doomed to using the light cavalry sabre if they are to retain the ability to dismount and use firearms. Only CA can rectify this shortcoming.

I am saddened by this, but never-the-less, the 'horse' units look much better now, and I also gave them heavy horses while I was in there, as they should be riding the same class of horse as cuirassiers. They should have nearly the same fighting qualities as cuirassier, too, but I will fix that another time. John Churchill (the Duke of Marlborough) gave all his 'horse' regiments breastplates in 1707 thus converting them to cuirassier. That was the only difference.

You can mod it. It's no problem to make cavalry_sword_musket combo. I did it too, cause i use regiment of horse as dragoonsfor expl., which use a pallasch.

If I not forget I will look at it and post you how to do.

Wow, I would really appreciate any information that you can share about doing this! Thanks.

Look in db/warscape_equipment_themes: Clone the x_euro_cavalry_musket_sabre and rename the new row to some name that is not already used (such as x_euro_cavalry_musket_sword). Replace "euro_cavalry_sabre" with "euro_straightsabre".
Then go to unit_stats_land and (as I explained earlier) replace x_euro_cavalry_musket_sabre with the name of the new line you just created.

Tiyafeh, you are unstoppable! I hadn't quite realized that the warscape_equipment_themes were contained in their own database. Thanks very much for sharing this with me. I am very impressed with the resourcefulness and determination of Tiyafeh and all the other modders.
