Cant view any type of video anymore..

Behold zeeee problem that I have encountered..

I installed Silent Hunter III from the cd. During the setup, it asked whether I would like to install the Windows Media 9 codec as well. I thought that I had already installed that with RTW. But to be sure I just checked this option as well. After finishing setup I tried to launch the game. But unfortunately all I got was a black screen, a freeze and then a system reboot.

I immediately thought of perhaps the intro files causing this problem. So I decided to delete them and continue with the game. And voila the game managed to load into the main menu. In order to learn the game I clicked on the tutorials. But again these *.wmv files could not be opened. Windows Media Player 10 opening, "connecting", freeze, mandatory reboot.

I then checked whether this was a problem related to Silent Hunter III only.
But to my horror, yes i like to use drama, I could not open any kind of video, even those not related to SHIII.

Same response in the Windows Media Player, freeze.
Avi Mpeg Wmv ..nothing..
Tried to open a mpeg file in Divx, Realplayer, Videolan..
all resulting in program freezing and no access to even the start of the video.

What should I do in order to fix this problem!!!
I hadnt any problem viewing video files prior to the SHIII and WM9 codec install..

Ill give my system specs, but I dont think it has much to do with it..
but still AMD 2600+ 2.0 Ghz, 856 mb, directx 9.0c, geforce 6600GT 128mb

If you have XP w/ SP2, you should have been updated to Windows Media 10. WMV 9 is outdated. By reinstalling 9, I believe you have corrupted 10. Reinstall WM 10 and report back

I reinstalled WMP 10.. and still no use

then, my friend, I'm afraid you MAY have something nasty in your PC. WM10 is known to have some security flaws. You MAY have had something nasty in there before, which was just made worse by trying to install another player.

I uninstalled Nvidia 77.72 Drivers, which I had obtained from the site... and reinstalled the older version from the 6600gt driver cd

And god almighty...

I can view everything again...

the 77.72 drivers have this weird HUE overlay crap, it looks like someone turned the brightness/gamma/hue/anything with color all the way up, you got into Color Correction and change to Color profile : Advanced mode

I never heard about crashes though, it's probably something else, oh well

well although i can view all videos now..

my pc is starting to act weird.. its becoming slow...
giving errors abouts "watchdog logfiles"

Adaware could not find anything
Spybot found one problem and fixed it..
Avast found zero problems...

opening videos takes more time.. when trying to view some folders, loading also takes more time than usual...

I want to use "Hijack this".. but I dont know where to post my logfile in order for people to view it
