10k corruption? Seriously?

Ok so I've been playing as Venice for the last couple of days, and I've expanded a bit around Jerusalem and slowly eliminating the Byzantines.

But recently my "Corruption and other" expenditure has been growing highly... and now it's up to 10k!
What is it that raises corruption and other?

The distance from the captial and wealth of the city. Always make the city that is closer to your more profitable citys capital to get the most money out of your settlements.

Only 10k? Pfft Ive gotten to 27k!

As far as corruption goes, most of the time the best thing to do is make sure you build all the Town Hall type buildings as I think that lowers corruption. You can move your capitol to somewhere more central, but in this case that will also mean you will start getting corruption in Venice and the money from trade resources will often lower because the further the trade resources are from your capitol, the more you make.
